Yaakov Diner, PMHNP-BC's style
💙 Warm 💡 Solution-oriented 🥇 Empowering 💭 Open minded 🌎 Holistic 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Yaakov Diner, PMHNP-BC chose to be in the helping profession
From a young age, I felt a natural pull toward supporting others through moments of crisis, pain, and transformation. I’ve always been attuned to how deeply mental health touches every corner of a person’s life — from how they relate to others to how they see themselves and navigate the world. Over time, this awareness turned into a calling. I wanted to be part of the solution, offering care that is not only evidence-based but also compassionate, accessible, and deeply human.
My personal and professional journey has led me through a range of clinical environments, including medical, addiction, and psychiatric settings. In each one, I saw how many people were doing their best to cope without the tools or support they needed. These experiences strengthened my commitment to an approach that treats the whole person — not just their symptoms — and helps restore a sense of agency, dignity, and hope.
As a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner, I offer medication management while weaving in a range of therapeutic frameworks, including CBT, DBT, ACT, and Motivational Interviewing. I’m also trained as a SMART Recovery Facilitator, which reflects my belief in the power of education, self-awareness, and collaboration in the healing process. My goal is to create a space where people feel supported, informed, and empowered to take meaningful steps toward growth and recovery.
At the heart of my work is a deep belief in people’s capacity to heal. Being able to walk alongside someone as they navigate that process — with honesty, courage, and resilience — is a privilege I never take for granted.
Yaakov Diner, PMHNP-BC's approach
My approach is deeply holistic and highly individualized. I believe true healing happens when we consider the whole person — mind, body, and environment — so I take into account psychological patterns, physical health, social dynamics, cultural identity, and environmental influences. Each of these pieces matters and helps us understand not just what’s going wrong, but also where resilience and strength already exist. I blend evidence-based therapeutic modalities with thoughtful medication management when appropriate, always with the intention of supporting sustainable, meaningful progress.
Collaboration is at the heart of my work. I don’t believe in one-size-fits-all solutions. Instead, I work closely with each client to co-create a treatment plan that reflects their values, honors their lived experience, and fits within the rhythm of their life. My goal is to empower each person to feel more in control of their journey — not just to reduce symptoms, but to build a foundation for long-term growth, connection, and self-trust.
What you can expect from sessions with Yaakov Diner, PMHNP-BC
Clients can expect to feel truly seen, heard, and respected in a space that is safe, supportive, and inclusive. I strive to create an environment where individuals feel comfortable showing up as they are — without fear of judgment — and where healing feels both accessible and empowering. Each session is thoughtfully designed to foster insight, manage medication when needed, and build practical tools for navigating symptoms, strengthening resilience, and improving overall quality of life.
My goal is to help clients gain clarity, confidence, and forward momentum on a path toward meaningful, lasting change. I’m passionate about working together to find the right treatment plan — one that supports emotional stability, mental clarity, and long-term well-being. I believe in demystifying the treatment process, breaking down stigma, and offering education and support that helps clients feel grounded and in control of their recovery journey. Healing is possible, and no one should have to navigate it alone.
Yaakov Diner, PMHNP-BC's experience working with the Jewish community
Growing up within the Jewish community has given me more than just familiarity — it has shaped my values, my worldview, and my clinical lens. I’ve witnessed firsthand the beauty and strength that exist in our traditions, the grounding force of faith and family, and the deep sense of connection that community can offer. I’ve also seen the challenges that can arise — the silence around mental health, the weight of communal expectations, and the internal conflict that can emerge when struggling privately in a public world. These personal insights have deeply informed my approach to care and strengthened my commitment to providing culturally sensitive, attuned support.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working with individuals across the spectrum of Jewish life — from yeshivish and chassidish communities to those with more modern or traditional observance. These experiences have shown me how crucial it is for mental health providers to understand the nuances of frum life, including its language, rhythm, and unspoken norms. Whether it’s navigating stigma, balancing religious obligations, or working through family dynamics, I strive to hold space that feels safe, respectful, and relevant to each person’s lived reality.
I’ve served the community in various clinical and support roles, each of which has shaped my practice in meaningful ways. As a hotline operator for GuardYourEyes, I offered confidential emotional support to individuals facing addiction, anxiety, shame, and isolation. Facilitating SMART Recovery meetings through Lakewood Community Services Corporation (LCSC) allowed me to create judgment-free spaces for growth, while honoring each participant’s personal and religious framework. In hospital settings, I gained critical experience — from my time on the medical/psychiatric unit at Monmouth Medical Center Southern Campus, where I cared for many Jewish patients, to the emergency room at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center, where I responded to acute psychiatric crises with speed, clarity, and compassion.
Today, as a psychiatric provider, I feel honored to support members of the Jewish community in a more personal and enduring way. Sitting one-on-one with clients and helping them work through pain, uncertainty, or transition — while honoring their beliefs and values — is profoundly meaningful to me. These moments of connection not only strengthen my clinical insight, they also reaffirm my dedication to bridging the gap between mental health care and our community’s unique needs. My work is guided by the belief that healing and happiness can coexist, that support can feel both professional and deeply human, and that no one should have to navigate emotional struggle alone.
