👂 Listener 🥇 Empowering 💭 Open minded 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Yisroel Picker, MSW chose to be in the helping profession
Early on in my career path, I witnessed the profound impact trauma can have on a person's life. It wasn't just the initial event, but the way it rippled outward, affecting relationships, self-esteem, and overall well-being.
This ignited a passion within me to become a source of support and guidance for those struggling in the aftermath of trauma. I believe that everyone deserves to feel safe, empowered, and whole.
Through therapy, I offer a space for individuals to heal, process their experiences, and build resilience. Seeing the transformation in my clients as they reclaim their lives is incredibly rewarding, and it fuels my dedication to this work.
Yisroel Picker, MSW's approach
My approach to therapy centers on creating a safe and supportive space where you feel comfortable exploring even the most difficult experiences. I prioritize building a strong therapeutic relationship where you can express yourself freely, without judgment.
My goal is to help you feel grounded and calm, and I will introduce new topics or delve deeper only when you're ready. You lead the therapy but I am there to scaffold you on this journey.
I believe humor can be a powerful tool to navigate challenging emotions and lighten the mood during sessions, fostering a collaborative and open environment for healing.

Yisroel Picker, MSW's experience working with the Jewish community
The Jewish experience is deeply woven with stories of hardship and survival. Being someone who has learned many years in Yeshiva, working within our community holds deep meaning for me.
There's a unique understanding that comes from shared traditions and values. It's especially rewarding when a rabbi entrusts me with their students – that trust is a privilege I take seriously. I also realize that no two yidden are alike.
As much as I love working within the community, I also realize that some are struggling with issues that stem from this community. My role isn't to be a mekarev. I am a therapist. Meeting a client where they are at can often mean meeting a client who has beliefs that challenge my own and that's okay with me.
The client controls the session and the narrative. They're permitted to speak freely, even if some might call it kfira. Oftentimes, having a frum therapist who allows for such free-flowing discussions can help peel away the client's resistance, and help foster an amazing therapeutic alliance.
