Why I chose to be in the helping profession—and why I continue to choose to stay—are complex and deeply personal. A significant part of it comes from my own experiences, both in therapy and with others in helping professions. I know what it feels like to struggle, to feel lost, to be in a place where guidance and support make all the difference. Through my own journey, I’ve come to recognize the impact of those who truly showed up for me, who did right by me, and who, in their own way, helped me find my way forward.
That experience shaped my desire to be there for others in the same way. I want to offer support, guidance, and understanding in whatever way I can. This profession is the best path I’ve found to do that, and so here I am.
My previous experience as a teacher, combined with my work as a therapist, has only reinforced this purpose. I’ve seen firsthand the power of connection, of holding space for someone, of witnessing their growth and resilience. I’ve had success with many different therapeutic approaches, but more than that, I’ve realized that this work is limitless—there is always more to learn, more ways to grow, and more ways to show up for those who need it. That is why I chose this path, and why I choose it still.
Moishy Anderson, LMSW's approach
My approach to therapy is shaped by the person sitting across from me. No two individuals are the same, and I believe the deepest healing happens through genuine human connection. My goal is always to meet people where they are and create a space where they feel truly seen and understood.
Two modalities that resonate deeply with how I view the world are Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and Internal Family Systems (IFS). ACT identifies six core inflexible processes that contribute to psychological distress. In therapy, we work to recognize these processes and develop greater psychological flexibility through experiential exercises like mindfulness, values exploration, and examining our relationship with challenges. One of the things I appreciate most about ACT is its effectiveness—it can be fast-acting and beneficial in so many areas of life.
IFS takes this work even deeper by viewing the mind as made up of different parts. There are the wounded parts that carry pain, the protective parts that try to shield us from experiencing that pain, and the reactive protectors that step in when pain has already surfaced. By understanding and engaging with these parts, we gain access to the Self—the core of who we are, untouched by pain or fear. The Self is inherently curious, compassionate, courageous, present, patient, and even playful. When we connect with it, true healing becomes possible.
Beyond ACT and IFS, I draw from a range of other therapeutic approaches, always adapting to the person in front of me. Therapy is not a one-size-fits-all process—it’s a collaborative experience, shaped by connection, trust, and a shared commitment to growth.
What you can expect from sessions with Moishy Anderson, LMSW
My priority is creating a space where you feel comfortable, heard, and free to share whatever is on your mind—at your own pace. Our sessions will be shaped by where you are in the moment, and I will always meet you there.
Some people prefer a faster-paced approach, while others need time to move through things more gradually. Some feel ready to open up, while others may be more reserved. However you show up, you are already welcome. There is nothing you need to be, nothing you need to do, and nothing you need to hold back. Our work together will unfold in a way that feels right for you.
Moishy Anderson, LMSW's experience working with the Jewish community
I have been a part of the Frum Jewish community my entire life and have extensive experience working with Jewish individuals and groups. This deep connection gives me an understanding of the cultural, religious, and communal dynamics that shape so many aspects of life. I recognize the unique challenges and strengths that come with navigating personal growth within the framework of Jewish values, traditions, and expectations.
In my work, I strive to create a space where individuals feel seen, understood, and supported—whether they are looking for guidance within the context of their faith or simply seeking a therapist who understands their world.
