Daniel Kretchman's style
😃 Humorous 💪 Challenging 💭 Open minded 🎨 CreativeWhy Daniel Kretchman chose to be in the helping profession
I started university studying physics and later changed schools to study early childhood education. Around that time, I re-connected with an acquaintance who had originally been an architect before becoming a social worker. He told me that if social work was where I was meant to be, I would eventually find my way there. That conversation stayed with me, and over time, it became the beginning of a path that ultimately led me to becoming a psychologist.
My professional journey has not been a straight line, but I have come to appreciate how each experience shaped the work I do today. I have always been drawn to understanding people and paying attention to the challenges they face, both personally and emotionally. After attending lectures at a conference and seeing the experiences of my spouse, friends, family members, and colleagues, I became especially interested in helping women navigate menopause and the many changes that can come with it. I joined The Menopause Society and spent time attending lectures, reading, and continuing to build my skills so I could better support women during this often difficult and overlooked stage of life.
In addition to private practice, I also volunteer with SMART Recovery, facilitating meetings for people struggling with compulsive behaviors and addictions. This was not originally an area I expected to work in, but after seeing how many people had difficulty finding adequate support, I felt compelled to learn more and become involved. That experience has reinforced the importance of meeting people with compassion, practicality, and respect, especially during periods of struggle and change.
Daniel Kretchman's approach
Ethics plays an essential role in my practice from the very beginning of therapy. We start with an initial evaluation and use that to develop an initial plan together, so the process feels clear and structured from the outset. I believe strongly in transparency, collaboration, and making sure you understand what we are doing and why, every step of the way.
In psychology, there are many approaches that have been shown to be effective, but no single method works for everyone. Because of that, I integrate different perspectives and tailor treatment to your specific challenges and preferences. You will be offered options that have been shown to help most people, and we will decide together what feels most useful and realistic for you.
More information about my approach to treatment is available on the Infinity Behavioral Health – Kretchman and Associates, PLLC website (infbh.com). I also offer a free initial call (20–30 minutes) so we can connect, discuss what you are looking for, and see whether working together feels like a good fit.
What you can expect from sessions with Daniel Kretchman
Starting therapy or meeting a new therapist can feel challenging, and I aim to make that process feel more grounded and human from the beginning. I see the connection between us as an essential part of treatment, not something secondary. That doesn’t mean we will always see things the same way, but it does mean we can openly explore differences and work through them together in a constructive way.
On my end, I focus on identifying interventions that are directly tied to your current challenges and goals. I work with you to figure out what is actually helpful for you, not just what looks good on paper. Therapy is not one-size-fits-all, so I pay close attention to what is working and what is not.
As we move forward, I adjust and refine the approach as needed so it stays aligned with your needs and progress. The goal is to keep the work flexible, responsive, and practical, while still grounded in solid clinical methods.
Daniel Kretchman's experience working with the Jewish community
I am a bilingual and bicultural licensed psychologist. Having lived for many years within both cultures, I have a strong understanding of cultural dynamics, identity, and the challenges that come with transitions between worlds. At the same time, I have worked with people from many different cultural backgrounds and recognize that while there are shared themes, there are also meaningful differences in each person’s experience. This has shaped the way I approach my work and how I understand people.
One of my core beliefs is that my strength is not in knowing everything, but in being aware that I do not. I approach each person with curiosity and respect for their lived experience, rather than assumptions. Therapy, in this sense, is a collaborative process where we learn together about what is actually true and relevant for you. I work to understand your specific situation and adapt my approach accordingly.
Throughout my life, I have been part of reform, conservative, and orthodox (Chabad) communities, and I carry those perspectives with me in a thoughtful and grounded way. Biblical perspectives, along with other approaches I find clinically useful, may be woven into treatment when appropriate, always guided by your own beliefs, preferences, and comfort. I am the son of a Holocaust survivor, which has deeply shaped my connection to identity, resilience, and meaning. At the same time, I also incorporate mindfulness and concepts from Buddhist psychotherapy, and I often draw inspiration from Leonard Cohen, who said, “I’m not looking for new religion, I’m quite happy with the old one, with Judaism.”

What people have to say about working with me:
-
I attribute Dr. Kretchman's success to theoretical knowledge, experience and most importantly, his caring and dedicated personal and professional qualities. In my experience, he responds well to feedback, making changes and adopting new approaches as needed. When Dr. Kretchman has a goal or challenge, he works hard and in a thorough manner to achieve that goal and effectively solve problems. I highly recommend Dr. Kretchman and finally, would like to point out that his bi-cultural background is particularly relevant for the OKclarity population.
