🥇 Empowering 🎯 Direct 💙 Warm 💡 Solution-orientedWhy Mendel Toron, LCSW chose to be in the helping profession
From a young age, I felt in tune to how others felt. Being highly sensitive, I understood that something was not right, but did not have access to the knowledge and support that was out there.
Having limited knowledge of the therapeutic world, I stumbled upon psychotherapy on my own search for healing. In therapy, I found certain therapeutic work with the right therapists to be deeply impactful. I began to process my experiences, let go of limiting beliefs, and reconnect to myself.
I also became interested in the various therapeutic modalities out there and how they could help people. I started my therapeutic process with CBT - Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and realized I wanted more. Then I experienced Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) and still felt like I was missing something. It was when I moved to more emotion and attachment-based work that I felt deep healing. I began EMDR, IFS, psychodynamic, and somatic work and was immediately sold.
These therapeutic approaches provided me lasting and transformative change, and now informs my therapeutic approach with clients.
Mendel Toron, LCSW's approach
With my work with clients, I found a similar trend. While traditional talk therapy was helpful, at a certain point people felt stuck in the same patterns and beliefs, and struggled to move past them. When they were introduced to EMDR, IFS, psychodynamic, and somatic therapy, for the first time, they saw how rapidly they could feel better. With a focus on trauma therapy, clients saw results faster and deeper progress was made. This helped them to commit and invest in their therapeutic process exponentially.
What you can expect from sessions with Mendel Toron, LCSW
Therapy sessions with me are experiential- meaning it is dynamic and focused with movement towards a shared goal. Whether it is psychodynamic, EMDR, IFS, or somatic therapy, the goal is the same - to produce insight and healing in the therapeutic process itself. With this, I play more of an active stance in the process vs traditional talk therapy. Working together with you, we use the tools I have learned to accelerate the treatment process.
As an EMDR specialist (EMDR-Certified) and Certified Clinical Trauma Professional (CCTP) my focus is on trauma therapy modalities within the therapeutic relationship to provide healing. This trauma-informed lens helps to conceptualize and address the issues present, while allowing for the diagnostic labels to be a secondary role in our treatment.
Mendel Toron, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community
Growing up in the Orthodox Jewish community, I have personal insight into the pros and cons of the systems and generational trauma we inherited. I know what it feels like not to receive the proper emotional support or feel trapped in unhealthy shame.
My professional background as a school counselor in multiple frum schools (including Yeshivas Chaim Toras Emes, Lubavitch Educational Center, and Mechina of South Florida) informed my work with the struggles of today’s youth. With my work at the Jewish Community Services of South Florida and Ohel Children’s and Family services, I provided trauma-informed trauma therapy and training to schools and community institutions. Working with leaders of Jewish institutions and survivors of trauma, I gained first hand knowledge into the unique challenges of our community.
More recently, in private practice my focus has been on helping adults and teens in the Jewish community heal from trauma and reconnect with themselves.
