💙 Warm 👂 Listener 🙌 Affirming 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Jamie Libenstein, Psy.D. chose to be in the helping profession
I chose to become a therapist out of a deep appreciation for people’s stories and a genuine curiosity about why people think, feel, and behave the way they do. I believe that when people are validated, empowered to hope, and given the space to be truly seen and heard, meaningful change becomes possible. Creating a supportive and thoughtful environment is central to my work, and I approach each relationship with care, openness, and respect for the individual sitting across from me. I value the courage it takes to show up and share personal experiences, and I aim to honor that trust in every session.
Through my work as a therapist, I have learned a great deal about myself and continue to experience personal growth alongside my clients. This work has deepened my understanding of how insight, self-compassion, and awareness can lead to lasting change. It is a privilege to walk alongside individuals as they explore their experiences, gain a clearer understanding of themselves, and recognize their own strengths. Supporting clients as they move toward healing, growth, and a more grounded sense of self is what makes this work deeply meaningful to me.
Jamie Libenstein, Psy.D.'s approach
I prioritize building a strong therapeutic alliance and creating a supportive space where taking the first step into therapy feels safe, respected, and manageable. I understand that beginning therapy can feel vulnerable, and I aim to meet clients with warmth, curiosity, and care from the very first interaction. Establishing trust and connection is central to my work, as meaningful progress grows from feeling understood and supported. My goal is to create an environment where clients feel comfortable showing up as they are.
My clinical experiences have allowed me to develop strong therapeutic skills while working with diverse clients across a wide range of concerns. I use an integrative, individualized approach that is thoughtfully tailored to each client’s unique needs, strengths, and personality. Rather than taking a one size fits all approach, I collaborate closely with clients to ensure our work feels relevant and grounded. I am committed to fostering a warm, supportive, and empathic therapeutic environment where clients feel safe to explore, reflect, and grow.
I work with individuals across the lifespan, from children to older adults, and value supporting clients at every stage of life. I strive to equip clients of all ages with practical strategies and helpful perspectives that support greater well-being and life satisfaction. When appropriate, I may offer therapeutic exercises to practice between sessions to help reinforce progress. This allows the work we do together to extend beyond the therapy space and into daily life.
My goal is to support clients in discovering their own potential and inner strengths while providing education and tools that foster insight, growth, and lasting change. I view therapy as a collaborative process where clients are active participants in their own healing. It is important to me that clients feel empowered, supported, and hopeful as they move forward. I look forward to working together!
What you can expect from sessions with Jamie Libenstein, Psy.D.
Our work together will begin with an exploration of your day to day life, including your relationships, work or school experiences, and home environment. Taking the time to understand these areas helps create a fuller picture of who you are and what matters most to you. From there, we will collaborate to create goals that feel meaningful, realistic, and aligned with your values. These goals are meant to support lasting growth, clarity, and a greater sense of fulfillment.
While our goals help provide direction, I believe it is just as important to allow space for flexibility and reflection throughout the process. As new experiences, insights, and challenges arise, we can adjust our focus in a way that feels supportive and intentional. Therapy is not a rigid process, and growth often unfolds in unexpected ways. Together, we will continue to navigate these shifts with curiosity, care, and respect for your individual journey.
Jamie Libenstein, Psy.D.'s experience working with the Jewish community
I interned and later worked at a Jewish non-profit organization in my hometown of Montreal that collaborated closely with the Jewish Federation. Through this work, I gained meaningful experience supporting the needs of the Jewish community and deepened my understanding of culturally informed care. I am also a member of a frum women’s mental health group in Montreal, which continues to shape my perspective and professional growth. Being connected to this community remains an important part of both my personal and clinical identity.
