Why Shauli Wagschal, MHC-LP chose to be in the helping profession

I chose to dedicate my life to the helping profession because I’ve seen firsthand how many people struggle in silence, unaware that care and support are not only available but can be life-changing. Mental health challenges often leave individuals feeling isolated and overwhelmed, and I’ve always felt a strong pull to be a source of hope and guidance.

Working with children and teens has been especially rewarding. Seeing their growth, resilience, and newfound confidence as they overcome challenges inspires me every day. It’s a privilege to walk alongside them in their journeys, helping them navigate their emotions, build healthy relationships, and discover their inner strength.

I’ve also been fortunate to collaborate with other professionals, and I’ve witnessed the power of a team approach. When we come together, bringing different perspectives and skills, the impact is profound. It’s incredible to see how this collective effort helps individuals not just cope but truly excel in their lives.

This work isn’t just a job—it’s a calling. It’s about showing up, listening deeply, and being part of the transformation that allows someone to heal, grow, and thrive.

Shauli Wagschal, MHC-LP's approach

My approach begins with a humanistic, person-centered foundation. I deeply believe that people are inherently good and possess the ability to grow, heal, and create meaningful change when supported in the right environment. By fostering empathy, unconditional positive regard, and genuine understanding, I create a space where clients feel safe to explore their inner world and unlock their potential.

I also integrate an existential perspective, helping clients navigate fundamental questions about life, meaning, freedom, responsibility, and purpose. This exploration empowers clients to embrace their autonomy, take ownership of their choices, and live more authentically in alignment with their values.

To provide practical tools for everyday challenges, I incorporate evidence-based techniques from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT). These approaches enhance self-awareness and offer actionable strategies to manage emotions, shift unhelpful thought patterns, and build resilience.

Ultimately, my goal is to empower clients to reconnect with their strengths, embrace their journey, and cultivate a life that feels both purposeful and fulfilling.

Shauli Wagschal, MHC-LP's experience working with the Jewish community

I come from a Chassidish background, having grown up in the Chassidish community of Boro Park. For three years, I worked in a high school that supports Chassidish and Heimish boys on the autism spectrum, helping them navigate their unique challenges and celebrate their progress.

Currently, I work at Pesach Tikvah, where I provide support to Jewish men from all walks of life, tailoring my approach to meet their individual needs. I also volunteer at Our Place, an organization devoted to helping young teens who are facing significant struggles.

These experiences have allowed me to work closely within the Jewish community, offering care and guidance while respecting the values and traditions that shape their lives.
