Why Jennifer Gould, LPC, NCC chose to be in the helping profession

The reason behind my choice to enter the helping profession stems from my exceptional performance in foundational psychology courses during college, coupled with the influence of family members already engaged in the field.

Encouragement from friends and relatives, who recognized my adept listening skills and ability to motivate others, directed my attention towards a career as a therapist. Following several leadership roles, I made the decisive to shift to the major in psychology and embarked on the journey to obtain my Master's in Clinical Health.

Jennifer Gould, LPC, NCC's approach

In my therapeutic approach, I lean towards modalities characterized by a direct and change-centered methodology. My commitment to fostering meaningful transformations is exemplified through my advanced training in two prominent therapeutic frameworks—Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy (CBT) and Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT). These evidence-based approaches are renowned for their efficacy in addressing issues related to anxiety and emotional dysregulation.

CBT, with its emphasis on identifying and challenging negative thought patterns, allows me to collaboratively work with individuals in reshaping their cognitive frameworks. This process not only promotes self-awareness but also empowers clients to make constructive changes in their behaviors and emotional responses.

On the other hand, DBT, with its focus on mindfulness, interpersonal effectiveness, emotion regulation, and distress tolerance, equips me with a comprehensive toolkit to guide individuals through complex emotional landscapes. This holistic approach enables clients to develop coping strategies and navigate challenges with resilience.

By integrating these modalities, I strive to create a therapeutic environment that is tailored to the unique needs of each individual. This personalized approach, grounded in evidence-based practices, aims to facilitate not only symptom alleviation but also long-lasting positive transformations in the lives of those I work with.

Jennifer Gould, LPC, NCC's experience working with the Jewish community

My connection with the Jewish community is deeply rooted in my personal history. Raised in a small Jewish family that fled Budapest, Hungary during the revolution, our journey led us to settlements in Eastern Europe and eventually to New York City. During my formative years, I regularly attended Synagogue with my mother in Queens, NY, fostering a sense of cultural and spiritual connection.

As I matured, my involvement in the Jewish community expanded through my participation in my maternal aunt's ministry, the March of Remembrance. This commitment took me to Israel, where, alongside my family, I undertook the poignant task of interviewing and filming Holocaust survivors residing in a community home in Haifa. Our purpose was to garner financial support from interested sponsors in the United States. The experience was transformative, shaping my perspective on history, resilience, and the importance of preserving narratives.

One particularly impactful encounter during this journey was with my great aunt, a survivor of a concentration camp in Poland. Learning about her experiences added a profound layer to my understanding of the strength and perseverance within the Jewish community.

Presently, I contribute to charities supporting the IDF and October 7th hostage families through online support. I've become politically active pushing agendas that help the Jewish population here and abroad. This ongoing involvement allows me to remain connected to the community and contribute to initiatives that align with my values and commitment to fostering understanding and remembrance.
