Yossi Strom MS, BACP's style
๐ Warm ๐ Humorous ๐ช Challenging ๐ฅ EmpoweringWhy Yossi Strom MS, BACP chose to be in the helping profession
I chose to enter the helping profession on the back of a tumultuous adolescence. During that time, I experienced a profound bereavement that deeply affected me and left me grappling with addictive behaviors, low self-esteem, and an intense sense of loneliness, especially around the loss I had endured. Outwardly, I appeared composed and capable, but internally I was struggling in ways no one could see. When I finally sought help, I was disappointed by what was available. I tried therapy, and while it offered some clarity, it didnโt shift my experience in a meaningful or lasting way.
What struck me then, and still stays with me now, is how widespread that sense of loneliness and disconnection seemed to be. It wasn't just something I felt, but something I began to recognize in others too. Since the beginning of my practical training, Iโve been committed to breaking through those barriers and finding ways to help people feel less alone and more connected.
Over the years, Iโve seen many different therapists and joined a variety of therapy groups, each rooted in different modalities. Some were helpful, some less so. But the ones that truly made a difference were the ones that created real change. They helped break through the loneliness and disconnect, not by fixing me, but by reaching me. Those are the experiences that shaped me, and those are the values I carry into my work today.
Yossi Strom MS, BACP's approach
My work is grounded in several integrative and relational approaches that allow me to meet each client where they are, with flexibility and depth. I draw from Focused Psychodynamic Therapy to explore the unconscious patterns and early relational experiences that continue to shape a person's present. This helps bring clarity and meaning to behaviors or emotional states that may feel confusing or stuck.
I also work with Janina Fisherโs Integrative Trauma Treatment model, which has been invaluable in helping clients understand how trauma is held in the body and how it fragments the self. This model supports clients in building internal awareness and restoring a sense of safety, wholeness, and connection.
Internal Family Systems (IFS) is another central part of my work. IFS allows us to explore the different "parts" within each person that may be in conflict or holding emotional pain. This approach gently helps clients build a relationship with those parts, fostering inner harmony rather than self-judgment.
In addition, I incorporate Family Systems Therapy to look at the broader relational and generational context. Often, the dynamics that play out in the present are rooted in long-standing patterns within a family system. Understanding those dynamics can create space for healing, new choices, and healthier relationships.
These approaches complement each other and give me a wide lens to view each person's unique story, while providing the tools to support meaningful and lasting change.
What you can expect from sessions with Yossi Strom MS, BACP
My sessions are holding, challenging, and deeply engaging. I work with a focus on developing a coherent and grounded understanding of your lived experience. Together, we trace the impact of trauma and attachment wounds, identifying the ways they continue to shape your inner world and relationships.
Therapy, as I see it, must be a space where we can connect to the felt experience of life, particularly as it relates to attachment and trauma. Engagement is a cornerstone of my work. I hold a high standard for the level of engagement that therapy should invite and sustain. Often, the movements we make in sessionโwhether toward or away from connectionโbecome meaningful content in themselves, offering insight into the patterns that need attention and care.
Clients often describe me as compassionate, attuned, and appropriately challenging. This balance is intentional. I aim to create a space that feels safe yet alive, where real transformation can begin to take root.
Yossi Strom MS, BACP's experience working with the Jewish community
I have extensive experience working within diverse Jewish communities. I spent three years in Israel working in a clinic setting, including a year in the clinicโs trauma unit and a Yeshiva that supported boys dealing with addiction, dependency, and complex trauma. During that time, I also facilitated a group for husbands whose spouses were living with Borderline Personality Disorder or related conditions, offering a space for insight, support, and growth.
For the past three years, Iโve been in private practice serving the Jewish communities of Golders Green and Stamford Hill, including the Chasidish population. My understanding of cultural and communal nuances, combined with my clinical training, allows me to offer therapy that is both sensitive and effective. I work in English and Yiddish, which helps ensure that clients can express themselves fully in the language most comfortable to them.

What my clients have to say about working with me:
-
I worked with Yossi for around 20 sessions during a particularly difficult chapter in my lifeโone where I felt like I was losing my sense of self. I was wrestling with a major decision, something I knew deep down was necessary but incredibly hard to face. Through our sessions, he helped me slow down and truly listen to my inner voice. During our sessions, he always created a calm, non-judgmental space where I felt safe to explore uncomfortable truths. He challenged me with questions that pushed me beyond surface-level thinkingโones I wouldnโt have asked myself usually. He also understood the demands of my schedule and always found ways to adapt. I would recommend him to anyone who's at a crossroads in life, feeling stuck, or trying to reconnect with who they really are.

I first sought therapy following intense feelings of loneliness and longstanding anxieties around forming relationships, navigating the adult world, and being my authentic self around others. Yossiโs initial focus on building a genuine, trusting connection helped me to feel safe and supported while getting used to the space, and his gentle curiosity allowed me to consider big topics at my own pace. Yossi was skilled at making poignant observations and asking thoughtful questions at the right time, and he used his keen intuition and refreshing honesty very wisely. He was also happy to be playful and bring his own fantastic sense of humour and shared appreciation of the absurd into our sessions, which ensured that they were always engaging and enjoyable. Yossi made me feel comfortable to share things which I had never spoken aloud, gave me complete permission to be my whole self, and has ultimately fostered both striking growth and real self-acceptance. I have left our time together with tangible results, a fundamental shift in my understanding of myself and others, and a brighter view of the future.

Working with Yossi has been immensely beneficial. He is an understanding and sympathetic presence, yet I found his ability to challenge and question my point of view (when necessary) very helpful. At first he did not bring much to our sessions other than a space for me to be heard. I initially found this disconcerting but I quickly realised that his approach is to build up a picture of a client's issues by allow them space to talk. This approach was helpful in the long run as over time he became very good at linking issues and events I had talked about previously with the new information I brought to him. He made it clear that he was not there to provide me with practical advice regarding what I can and cannot do in my own life. Yet he was judgement-free when talking about any sensitive issues I brought to him and I found his input helpful. His focus on many of the issues I brought to him was primarily how it impacted myself and my own internal world. This was helpful as developing this skill is one of the main reasons I chose to start therapy. He seemed knowledgeable with the technical side of psychotherapy and provided me with helpful reading materials related to childhood trauma and arousal states when I requested. He was not afraid to explain when the topic fell outside the scope of his expertise or responsibilities as a therapist and in these instances he was keen to bring the session back within these parametres. He was patient and sympathetic without being patronising or flippant and overall I have found his therapy beneficial for my mental health and sense of self. He has provided me with helpful guidance and mentorship on a whole array of personal issues and I would strongly recommend his therapy to others. I would definitely work with Yossi again in the future!

Yossi has a genuinely unique ability to be calming, insightful and searching all at the same time. By far the most natural and enriching therapist Iโve ever worked with. His inquisitive nature allows conversation to feel very natural and organic and I surprise myself every time with how much he encourages me to question, reassess and uncover. His sessions are soothing yet never pondering, and every session leaves me with an extraordinarily clear perspective and the confidence to tackle issues Iโd previously felt were insurmountable. Iโd highly recommend Yossi to anyone, whatever their experience with therapy has been.

Yossi has helped me tremendously. After years of therapy and probably 13 different therapists Yossi was the first to identify that I may have ADHD. My life makes a lot of sense now looking through the lens of adhd.. I finally feel like I am on the correct course for recovery. Simply put i would recommend Yossi without a doubt.

After years of therapy and different therapists, I came to Yossi at the lowest of low points in my life. I had been to over 10 therapists before that and I still couldn't get over my depression, anxiety and trauma. Having spent that last 6 months or so with Yossi, my life has changed. Yossi is inquisitive, incisive and probes into the issues, no stone is left unturned. Past therapists were happy to prolong my therapy without seeing real benefits and were content with mediocre results, not Yossi. He has been a major help in my journey to overcoming these issues that have plagued me for the past 15 years.

Where do I start! Iโve been working with Yossi now for 3 months and in that time he has literally changed my life. When, I started therapy, was in a pretty low place and he picked me back up and helped me work through my challenges, giving me clarity on my thoughts and feelings. I feel very lucky to have met Yossi as his caring, calming and thoughtful demeanour really helped me feel comfortable enough to move forward. Working with him has had a huge impact on me in so many areas of my life and I will be forever grateful for his words and professional insight.

Jeremy has been a fantastic therapist and I would recommend anyone who has him recommended to use him. I got in touch with him in May 2023 with several worries and concerns and ~6 months later I can say I am a better and stronger person because of the conversations I have had with Jeremy. He is a excellent listener with great insight and an ability to alter your perspective to see yourself and your concerns in a new light and able to break down down and tackle them in easier pieces. Jeremy has helped me grow as a person and in my relationship, both feel now more resilient than ever and going from strength to strength. Excellent Therapist!

I have been having sessions with Yossi now for a few months. It was my first proper introduction to weekly therapy and Yossi helped me identify and then facilitate what I needed from the sessions. Yossi has been a great listener and approaches his input in a methodical and informative way that is easy to digest. Each session so far has concluded with a more informed view on situations and the process has been enlightening.

Yossi has been my therapist for a number of months now and at all times I have found him very supportive and professional during our sessions. I quickly built up a trust with him which enabled myself to discuss my depression and anxiety openly which I had been suffering with for a number of years.

Since starting sessions with Yossi he has been supportive, kind, professional and a help in so many ways. I have always felt that he has understood what it is I need as a client coming to therapy, making sure each session is tailored to my specific needs, even running over time in some cases (making sure it was okay with me first) to ensure the session ended in a conclusive way. Scheduling is never an issue with Yossi as he always finds somewhere to fit you into his calendar, and lets you know with plenty of time if he will be unavailable. There have also been times where Yossi has supported me outside of our sessions including by email to help me and give advice through difficult times. Because of his help and his perspective on things in my life, I feel in a much better place than I was when I started as I have started viewing things in different ways.

Yossi was professional, empathetic, and easy-going. I felt comfortable being honest and frank with him, and I found his insights helpful and, I think, conducive for the healing process. Iโm very grateful for the time I had to work with him.

I came to therapy with more issues than I was aware and Yossi really helped me break things down, pick them apart, and get way ahead of where I ever was. Yossi is very understanding and caring. He made it feel very easy for me to talk and made me feel very comfortable which is very unlike me. Overall he really helped me move forward and start getting to a much better place.

Yossi Strom was in my experience very gentle as well as emotionally attuned to his client. He also has a unique ability to make his client feel like he is in their headspace with them, rather than an outsider giving them advice.

Having been to several therapists prior to Yossi, I was able to especially appreciate Yossiโs professionalism and effectiveness. He was always empathetic, and I always felt safe and unjudged. Yossi was also able to help me develop greater self-awareness and self-compassion, which in turn helped me take several concrete positive steps to improve life for myself and my family.
