Why Bassy (Batya) Schwartz, LMFT chose to be in the helping profession

The therapy field felt like a natural fit for me. I've always been someone who values critical thinking and enjoys connecting with others on a personal level. My journey into this field began when I embarked on a personal therapeutic journey embarking on the deep work that would take my life from survival mode to healing mode. This experience deepened my connection to the field of therapy and psychology, sparking a profound desire to further my knowledge and strengthen my ability to bring a sense of security and belonging to other humans.

Bassy (Batya) Schwartz, LMFT's approach

My therapeutic approach is rooted in several key principles:

1. Genuine Connection: We have a unique opportunity here, in the therapeutic space, to share and connect authentically, which is often scary or impossible in the "real world". You will find my demeanor to be natural, transparent, realistic and thoughtful. I welcome you to be your whole self when we are working together.

2. Meeting You Where You Are At: This is YOUR therapuetic experience. We will be intentional about what you actually need and make sure we are targeting a transformation or goal that truly touches upon your greatest need in the moment. Some of the biggest breakthroughs are small switches that have the power to reset the way we show up for ourselves and engage with others.

3. Attachment-Based: We get to the core of the matter. Where did this pattern start? What are the roots tied to? Why is it so significant to who you are? We want to address the heart of the matter to create lasting results that bring you meaning and fulfillment in your most tender parts.

4. Evidence-Based Practice: We often hear "I went to therapy and tried it and it did not get me anywhere." I employ therapeutic models that are not only backed up by science, but have also aided my practice in profound transformation for my clients.

5. Slow and Steady Wins the Race: We lose ourselves in the process of learning to be the people we think we need to be vs. the people that we are. Slowing down and tuning in to our feelings, physiological sensations, experienes, and blocks can rewire the way we manage the different obstacles that arise in our every day lives. We work at a pace comfortable for you, ensuring lasting and sustainable progress.

7. Emotionally Focused: Perhaps you have experience needing to suppress your emotions to get by in your relationships or environment. In my book, emotions are key to presence and presence is what ensures we are living the life we want to have.

8. Comic Relief: We're getting rid of the sterile therapeutic environment. Sometimes we just have to laugh, share media, say it like it is and connect as humans.

By weaving these principles together, I strive to create a therapeutic experience that is tailored to your unique needs, promotes personal growth, and fosters a genuine connection between us.

Bassy (Batya) Schwartz, LMFT's experience working with the Jewish community

My experience within the Jewish community has been deeply rewarding, encompassing various facets of community involvement. I have actively participated in initiatives related to infertility, including raising awareness, developing programming, and collaborating with the PUAH Cares Team for case management. Additionally, I've been engaged in advocating for Agunot, promoting awareness, creating programming, and offering professional support through organizations like ORA. Beyond these specific areas, I've taken an active role in serving on synagogue boards.

Our vibrant Jewish community possesses remarkable qualities, yet it also presents opportunities for growth in handling common challenges. I find great fulfillment in contributing to our community by creating spaces for critical analysis, expansion of dialogue and services, and transformation of approaches to better address these issues. It is my hope that by working together, we can enhance the support and resources available to our community members and foster positive change within our close-knit Jewish community.
