Why Barry Granek, LMHC chose to be in the helping profession

I chose to become a therapist because I have witnessed firsthand how challenging life transitions can be, particularly for men in their 20s and 30s. This is a time when society often expects them to be fully autonomous, yet they are simultaneously navigating significant milestones like starting a career, getting married, or entering parenthood. These changes, while exciting and full of potential, often bring about a profound sense of uncertainty and pressure.

Growing up in the Orthodox Jewish community, I saw up close the unique challenges men face during these pivotal moments. The pressure to succeed in a career, to build and maintain relationships, and to meet the community's expectations around marriage and family life can be overwhelming. These transitions, though full of possibility, often come with hidden complexities that can be difficult to manage alone.

I wanted to create a space where men can openly explore their experiences without judgment. A place where they can confront their challenges, develop healthier relationships, and improve their overall well-being. My work is driven by a deep passion for helping others find clarity during these confusing times and for witnessing their personal growth.

There's a unique fulfillment that comes from seeing someone gain a new perspective or overcome a hurdle they once thought insurmountable. It's this transformation that fuels my commitment to this work, knowing that every step forward is a step toward a more meaningful, balanced life

Barry Granek, LMHC's approach

My approach to therapy is rooted in the belief that everyone deserves a warm, supportive, and non-judgmental space where they can freely explore their thoughts and emotions, especially during pivotal life transitions. I specialize in gender-sensitive therapy, with a particular focus on the unique challenges men face in relationships, physical intimacy, and personal growth.

I understand that these areas of life can be deeply complex and often carry a significant emotional weight. That's why I prioritize open communication and mutual respect in my work. I see therapy as a collaborative journey, where we work together to address your unique challenges in a way that feels both empowering and affirming.

In our sessions, I integrate mindfulness techniques, regular emotional check-ins, and personalized coping strategies tailored to your specific needs. These tools are designed to help you navigate life's difficulties with greater confidence and resilience, enabling you to face whatever comes your way with a clearer mind and a steadier heart.

Whether you're grappling with relationship issues, facing challenges around intimacy, or feeling anxious about the changes life is throwing your way, my goal is to help you develop a deeper understanding of yourself. Together, we'll build the skills you need to not just survive, but to truly thrive.

Barry Granek, LMHC's experience working with the Jewish community

Working with the Jewish community has been one of the most fulfilling aspects of my career, particularly because of my own background in the Orthodox Jewish community. This personal connection gives me a unique insight into the socio-cultural and religious factors that deeply influence mental health, relationships, and overall well-being.

I understand the specific challenges that men in early adulthood face within this context—whether it's transitioning from yeshiva or college into the workforce, navigating the shift from being single to starting a family, or the move from being a student to taking on the responsibilities of a business owner or employee. These transitions are often laden with expectations and pressures that can be difficult to manage alone.

My experience allows me to offer culturally sensitive therapy that not only respects and honors your values but also addresses the key issues you’re facing. Whether you’re dealing with the complexities of dating within the community, managing marital challenges, or trying to balance religious commitments with personal aspirations, I’m here to provide a space where you can explore these concerns with empathy and support.

In our work together, my goal is to help you navigate these unique challenges in a way that feels authentic and aligned with your values, empowering you to find clarity and growth within the framework of your beliefs and traditions.
