Why Tatyana Shchupak, Ph.D. chose to be in the helping profession

I chose this profession because I genuinely enjoy working with people and find this work deeply meaningful. I’m naturally curious about what shapes our thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and I love being able to use that curiosity to help people make sense of what they’re experiencing in a compassionate, informed way.

I especially enjoy psychological testing because it allows me to bring clarity to situations that may have felt confusing or overwhelming. There is something powerful about putting the pieces together in a way that helps clients better understand themselves and feel validated in their experiences. My goal is that the results not only provide answers, but also offer direction and practical guidance for growth.

Therapy is equally fulfilling for me. I value the opportunity to be present with someone during challenging moments, to support their personal growth over time, and to learn from each person I work with.

Tatyana Shchupak, Ph.D.'s approach

Whether you are feeling overwhelmed, stuck, or simply in need of someone to talk to, you do not have to go through it alone. I have years of experience providing both therapy and evaluations, and I work with children, adolescents, and adults. I support clients navigating anxiety, depression, ADHD, life transitions and stress, learning difficulties, behavioral or parenting struggles, relationship issues, and trauma. I also offer neuropsychological testing to help obtain diagnostic clarity, including concerns such as Autism, ADHD, and learning issues, along with recommendations for school accommodations and treatment planning.

My approach with adults is collaborative and grounded in evidence-based techniques like CBT. I tailor therapy to your specific needs and goals, creating a space that feels safe and supportive. For some, therapy involves structured guidance and practical strategies to move forward. For others, it means having room to explore at their own pace and make sense of their experiences over time. Either way, we work together to focus on what matters most to you.

Working with children and families often involves integrating play, activities, and creative approaches to help children express themselves and engage in therapy. I help children develop practical skills to manage emotions, behaviors, and daily challenges, using evidence-based strategies from CBT and related approaches to build coping skills, self-regulation, and confidence. At the same time, I partner closely with parents to provide guidance and strategies that foster growth, resilience, and success at home and at school.

What you can expect from sessions with Tatyana Shchupak, Ph.D.

Throughout therapy, you will begin to notice your thought patterns more clearly and understand how they shape your emotions and behaviors. Together, we will look at what is helping you and what may be getting in your way. From there, we will gently practice new ways of thinking and responding that feel more aligned with how you want to show up in your life. Over time, this process can create a sense of clarity and self-awareness that feels both grounding and empowering.

We also focus on practical tools you can use in daily life, not just ideas that stay in the therapy room. The goal is real, lasting change that helps you build confidence, resilience, and a sense of momentum forward. Along the way, we might use metaphors, creative activities, or engaging exercises to make concepts easier to understand and remember, and we bring in humor when it fits.

For children, sessions often include play, games, and hands-on strategies to help them practice skills like managing emotions, building coping strategies, and improving self-regulation. I also work closely with parents to reinforce these skills at home and school, creating a supportive environment for growth and confidence.

I offer virtual and in-person appointments at several locations, including South Brooklyn and Downtown Brooklyn.

Tatyana Shchupak, Ph.D.'s experience working with the Jewish community

I have worked with many clients from Jewish backgrounds, supporting individuals and families with a wide range of concerns, including family dynamics, stress and anxiety, and life transitions. Whether someone is adjusting to a new stage of life, navigating complex relationships, or carrying long-standing worries, my goal is to meet them where they are with care and respect. It is important to me that you feel seen not only as an individual, but also in the context of your family and community.

I also recognize how cultural and community factors can deeply impact mental health, especially within the Jewish world. Expectations, values, and unspoken norms can all affect how comfortable someone feels seeking support and talking about what they are going through. I keep these factors in mind and tailor my approach to each person’s unique needs, background, and comfort level. Together, we will work in a way that honors your experiences, your identity, and what feels right for you.
