Why Chaya Gross, LMHC chose to be in the helping profession

I have always been deeply fascinated by the endless depth and complexity of the human mind and soul. There is something endlessly wondrous to me about the human journey, how we become who we are, the experiences that shape us, and our remarkable capacity for healing, resilience, and growth. I believe that every person carries within them a unique story, along with an innate potential for transformation. It is a privilege for me to sit with people as they explore their inner worlds and move toward greater healing and wholeness.

For many years, I was fully devoted to raising my family, and I felt deeply grateful to have that as my primary focus. As life shifted and my children grew, I began to feel the quiet ache of unrealized potential and a growing sense that there was something more I was being called to do. In time, Hashem guided me toward this profession, and looking back, I can see how each stage of my life prepared me for this work. My personal experiences, together with my training, have given me a deep appreciation for the challenges, transitions, and complexities that people face throughout life.

I deeply believe that in our generation, Hashem has opened pathways for healing in ways that align beautifully with Torah and are so deeply needed within our community. I feel profound gratitude every day for the privilege of accompanying individuals and families on their journeys toward healing. To witness people reconnect with themselves, strengthen their relationships, and discover new possibilities for growth is something I never take for granted. Being part of that process feels both meaningful and sacred, and it is an honor to do this work each day.

Chaya Gross, LMHC's approach

My approach to therapy is grounded in the belief that people are not broken. I believe that our struggles often make sense when understood within the context of our life experiences, and that, given the right circumstances, the soul naturally reaches toward health, healing, and growth. Rather than viewing symptoms as problems to be eliminated, I see them as meaningful expressions of our attempts to adapt, survive, and make sense of our experiences. Therapy, for me, is about creating the conditions in which deeper understanding, healing, and lasting change can emerge.

My work is informed by humanistic, experiential, and somatic traditions of psychotherapy. I draw inspiration from the relational depth of Carl Rogers, Gestalt therapy, Wilhelm Reich, and Eugene Gendlin, all of whom emphasize emotional experience, present-moment awareness, and the profound connection between mind and body. These traditions recognize that healing happens not only through insight, but through fully experiencing and integrating what has been held within us, often for many years.

At the heart of my work is making real contact with the person in front of me. Therapy is not mechanical or technique-driven, but a deeply relational process grounded in presence, attunement, and a genuine effort to understand the lived experience of each moment. I pay close attention not only to what is being said, but also to what is happening in the body, recognizing that the body often continues to hold patterns, emotions, and protective responses long after the original circumstances have passed.

In practice, this means we explore both your personal story and the ways your body continues to carry patterns shaped by earlier experiences, especially those that once helped you adapt to life circumstances but may no longer be serving you. Together, we work toward understanding these patterns with compassion rather than judgment. The goal is to help you create the change you seek through work that reaches deeply enough that growth becomes lasting, authentic, and a natural part of how you move through life.

What you can expect from sessions with Chaya Gross, LMHC

In our sessions, you can expect a space that is attentive, grounded, and deeply relational. I will be present with you in a way that is engaged, compassionate, and non-judgmental, and we will move at a pace that allows your experience to unfold naturally. I do not see you as broken or in need of fixing. Rather, I see something alive, whole, and inherently healthy within you that may at times feel blocked, protected, or covered over by life's experiences.

Together, we will spend time understanding your personal story and the patterns that have shaped your life. At the same time, we will work in a somatic way, paying close attention to the present moment and to how your body may still be holding on to patterns that once served an important purpose but may no longer be helping you in the present. With curiosity and compassion, we can begin to understand these patterns and create space for something new to emerge.

Although I hold theory in mind, sessions are not mechanical or technique-driven. Instead, we follow what arises naturally between us, working with your story, your emotional experience, your beliefs, and the wisdom of your body as it shows up in real time. Therapy becomes a shared process of discovery, one that honors your lived experience and allows old, unhelpful adaptations to gradually loosen, shift, and transform.

Over time, this somatic and relational process can help you become more aware of yourself from the inside and more able to relate to your thoughts, feelings, and bodily experience in an integrated and compassionate way. As awareness deepens, old patterns often begin to fall away naturally, making room for greater freedom and authenticity. My hope is that you leave sessions feeling more connected to yourself, with greater clarity, presence, and a deeper sense of inner wholeness and peace.

Chaya Gross, LMHC's experience working with the Jewish community

I've refined the introduction below while preserving the reverence, warmth, and deeply personal tone of the original.

Working with the Jewish community is something I experience as deeply meaningful and as a genuine privilege. It feels to me like a calling to sit with Jewish individuals and families and to witness healing within a community that has carried the weight of long and often painful generations of adaptation throughout golus. There is something profoundly moving about accompanying people as they reconnect with themselves, their relationships, and their innate capacity for healing. Being entrusted with this work is something I never take for granted.

Over the years, I have come to see again and again the extraordinary resilience, depth, and wisdom within Jewish people. Many of the struggles I encounter can be understood as intelligent adaptations developed in response to complex life experiences, family histories, and the broader historical burdens our community has carried. Rather than seeing these patterns as pathology, I understand them as meaningful responses that once served an important purpose. I am continually moved by the capacity for these patterns to soften and shift when they are met with the right conditions of safety, compassion, and understanding.

I have been working with the Jewish community for nearly a decade, and I continue to be humbled by the strength, sensitivity, and inner richness that people bring into the therapy room. Time and again, I witness an extraordinary willingness to engage in deep inner work, even in the midst of significant pain or struggle. It is a privilege to accompany people on that journey and to bear witness to the growth and healing that can emerge.

I have never ceased to experience Jewish souls as deeply beautiful, especially when they are given a space of safety, understanding, and genuine human contact in which to unfold. When people feel truly seen and met in their experience, something essential often begins to emerge naturally. Creating that kind of space is at the heart of my work, and it remains one of the greatest privileges of my professional life.

If you'd like, I can also make this a bit more concise for stronger engagement on a directory profile while preserving its depth and voice.
