💙 Warm 🙌 Affirming 🙏 Spiritual 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Sherry Gaba, LCSW chose to be in the helping profession
Becoming a single mother was a pivotal moment in my life. It gave me a deep understanding of the challenges single moms face and fueled my desire to help others navigate similar struggles. In my thirties, I found myself craving more meaning and purpose in my career. I had been working in advertising, but I knew I wanted a different path—one that would allow me to make a tangible impact while providing the flexibility to build a practice of my own.
Initially, I envisioned becoming a family court mediator, supporting divorced parents in resolving conflicts. But as my journey unfolded, my career took me into diverse and meaningful fields. I’ve had the privilege of working in hospice care, supporting individuals and their families through end-of-life transitions. I’ve also delved into addiction counseling, helping people reclaim their lives. Most recently, my focus has been on toxic relationships, codependency, and trauma—areas where I feel deeply connected to my clients and the transformative work we do together.
This profession has opened doors I never imagined. I’ve authored two books, sharing insights and tools that have resonated with readers worldwide. I’ve been fortunate to serve as a media expert, appearing on platforms like VH1’s Celebrity Rehab and other media outlets. Additionally, I hosted my own podcast, *The Love Fix*, where I shared knowledge and fostered conversations that inspired growth and healing.
This journey has been profoundly rewarding, and I’m grateful for the opportunity to guide others toward clarity, resilience, and transformation.
Sherry Gaba, LCSW's approach
My approach to therapy is deeply rooted in both my professional expertise and personal experiences. I believe that true healing happens when clients feel genuinely seen, heard, and supported. With this in mind, I provide compassionate care, creating a safe and comfortable space where clients can explore their challenges and growth without fear of judgment.
Collaboration is at the heart of my practice. I work closely with each client, tailoring the journey to their unique needs and goals. Together, we uncover the barriers holding them back and pave the way toward a more authentic and fulfilling life.
To support this process, I draw on a range of integrated therapeutic modalities. These include somatic experiencing, which helps clients reconnect with their bodies; polyvagal theory, which fosters nervous system regulation; DBT, for building practical skills in emotion regulation and interpersonal effectiveness; solution-focused therapy, for honing in on strengths and future goals; and other eclectic approaches designed to meet clients where they are.
Each session is designed to empower clients, equipping them with tools and insights to navigate their challenges and embrace their full potential. This blend of expertise, compassion, and collaboration creates a dynamic and transformative therapeutic experience.

Sherry Gaba, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community
My work with the Jewish community has been both diverse and deeply fulfilling. At the Jewish Federation, I created programs specifically designed to support Jewish single parents, addressing their unique challenges and fostering a sense of community.
At Jewish Family Services, I had the privilege of working with clients navigating a range of issues, including stress, anxiety, depression, and the complexities of single parenting. Recognizing the importance of tailored support, I also developed a dedicated program for Jewish single parents at a Jewish Single Parents Camp, providing resources and a nurturing environment for growth and connection.
As a hospice social worker for Jewish Family Services, I provided compassionate care to individuals and families during some of the most vulnerable times in their lives, helping them find comfort and peace through culturally sensitive support.
Additionally, I’ve worked with third-generation clients of Holocaust survivors, addressing transgenerational trauma and guiding them through the process of ancestral healing. This work has been especially meaningful, as it not only honors the resilience of previous generations but also helps individuals reclaim their sense of self and connection.
Through these roles, I’ve developed a profound understanding of the cultural and historical nuances within the Jewish community, which continues to inform and enrich my practice.
