Sarah Hendin, LMHC's style
💙 Warm 💪 Challenging 👂 Listener 🙌 Affirming 🥇 Empowering 💭 Open minded 🌎 Holistic 🧘 Calm 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Sarah Hendin, LMHC chose to be in the helping profession
Honestly, the helping profession chose me. I didn't originally plan on becoming a therapist, but through different life events and my own personal journey, I found my way into this profession. After going through my own challenges and experiences, becoming a therapist just made sense. I've always had a passion for helping others, and growing up, people would naturally come to me to talk about what was going on in their lives. They would often tell me that they felt comfortable opening up to me, and I realized that listening and supporting others was something that came naturally to me.
Becoming a therapist gave me the opportunity to take something that has always been a part of who I am and do it in a more professional way. Helping others has always fit my personality, but through my training and work as a therapist, I've been able to develop the skills to support people through their challenges in a deeper and more meaningful way. My own life journey has also helped me understand how difficult life can be at times and how important it is to have someone there to listen and support you. I feel that the helping profession is a perfect fit for me because I get to do something professionally that has always come naturally to me personally.
Sarah Hendin, LMHC's approach
My approach to therapy is person-centered. I go where my client needs me to go, because I believe that every person is different and that therapy should reflect each client's individual needs. I have an eclectic background, which allows me to draw from different techniques, skills, and approaches depending on what would work best for the person sitting across from me. My goal is to help each client get what they are looking for from therapy, rather than trying to fit everyone into the same approach. I want my clients to feel that our work together is focused on them, their experiences, and what they need at that particular point in their lives.
I believe that one of the most important parts of therapy is the therapeutic relationship. Building trust and rapport creates the foundation for clients to feel comfortable opening up and working through the things that may be difficult for them to share. I want my clients to know that they can come as they are and that we can work together at a pace that feels right for them. From there, I can use different techniques and skills to help them process their experiences, gain a better understanding of themselves, and work toward the changes they want to make. For me, therapy is about creating a relationship where clients feel supported and understood while having the space to grow.
What you can expect from sessions with Sarah Hendin, LMHC
You can expect to find a warm, supportive, and safe therapeutic environment where you can feel comfortable sharing what brings you to therapy. I understand that opening up about personal experiences is not always easy, and I want you to feel that you have the space to talk about what you are going through without feeling judged. Together, we can explore the experiences and challenges that have brought you to this point in your life. I can help you make connections between how you were raised, how those experiences may have shaped the way you see yourself, and how you view your life today.
In our sessions, you will have the opportunity to process stress, trauma, loss, anxiety, and grief in a therapeutic setting. We can work through what feels overwhelming, explore patterns that may be affecting you, and develop a better understanding of your thoughts and emotions. I also want to help you feel empowered by learning and using coping skills that can support you during difficult or overwhelming times. My hope is that our work together will give you the support you need to navigate life's challenges, feel less alone in what you are experiencing, and build the tools to manage those challenges in a way that works for you.
Sarah Hendin, LMHC's experience working with the Jewish community
I am a religious Modern Orthodox Jew, and I live within a Jewish community. I currently work with clients across the spectrum of the Jewish community, as well as clients who are not Jewish. I find that sharing a Jewish background can help some clients feel that I am more relatable to them and that there is already a level of understanding between us. They may not have to explain certain Jewish experiences, traditions, or community dynamics because I already understand that part of their world. I think it can be comforting for clients to know that they can talk about their experiences and feel understood without having to explain every detail of their background.
While sharing a Jewish background can be helpful in building that connection, it does not change how I show up as a therapist. My approach remains centered on each individual client and what they need from therapy. I especially love being able to support women in the Jewish community and help them feel less alone in what they are going through. This is particularly meaningful to me when working with women navigating maternal mental health challenges and reproductive loss, experiences that can sometimes feel isolating or difficult to talk about. Being able to offer a supportive space where women feel understood, heard, and comfortable sharing their experiences is something I truly value about the work I do.
