💙 Warm 👂 Listener 💭 Open minded 🧘 CalmWhy Liat Adelman, LMSW chose to be in the helping profession
I chose to pursue a career in the helping profession because I experienced firsthand the transformative effects of therapy and felt a deep desire to give back. While many people tried to dissuade me from this path, warning me of it's challenges, I knew in my heart it was the right choice. I listened to that inner voice urging me forward, trusting that this was where I was meant to be.
Becoming a therapist felt natural to me. I’ve often been told I’m a good listener, someone who radiates warmth and creates an environment where others feel safe to open up. Friends and acquaintances have always been drawn to confide in me, and I cherish those connections. I thrive on meaningful conversations and find immense fulfillment in supporting others as they navigate their challenges and uncover their strengths.
I’m also a naturally curious person, deeply fascinated by the intricacies of human emotions and experiences. This curiosity fuels my passion for understanding others on a deeper level. I’ve seen my share of darkness in the world, and I know how isolating it can feel. Therapy was a space where I discovered that I wasn’t alone, and I want to create that same safe haven for others—a place where they feel seen, heard, and supported.
For me, being in this profession is more than just a job. It’s a calling, one that allows me to connect with people on a profoundly personal level and help them find light in their lives. This work is challenging, yes, but it is also incredibly rewarding and deeply meaningful. I can’t imagine doing anything else.
Liat Adelman, LMSW's approach
My approach to therapy begins with prioritizing the therapeutic relationship above all else. I want my clients to feel comfortable and safe in the space we share. I recognize that walking into a therapy room, opening up to a stranger, and sharing vulnerable parts of yourself can feel daunting, even overwhelming. From the very start, I emphasize that this space is for *them*—a place where they can feel secure, supported, and understood without judgment.
I don’t see my role as someone who’s there to “fix” problems but rather as someone who deeply listens, seeks to understand, and walks alongside my clients on their journey. I take the time to understand who they are and where they’re coming from, building a plan tailored to their needs and ensuring they feel seen and valued every step of the way.
Collaboration is a cornerstone of my work. I regularly check in to see what’s resonating and what isn’t, adjusting our approach as needed. Depending on the client’s needs, I incorporate various methods, including Internal Family Systems (IFS) and parts work, strengths-based perspectives, and practical coping strategies. These tools help clients better understand themselves, tap into their inner resources, and navigate their challenges with greater ease.
Ultimately, my goal is to create a therapeutic experience that fosters trust, self-discovery, and growth—where clients not only feel safe but also empowered to explore their stories and build the life they envision.
What you can expect from sessions with Liat Adelman, LMSW
In our therapy sessions, you can expect a welcoming, nonjudgmental space where your story truly matters. From the very beginning, we’ll take the time to explore what brought you here—your challenges, your coping mechanisms, and your hopes for the future. This isn’t a one-size-fits-all approach. Together, we’ll craft a path forward that feels both meaningful and achievable for you.
Throughout our work, I’ll regularly check in to ensure our sessions are meeting your needs. What’s working? What’s not? These conversations will allow us to adjust as needed, keeping your goals at the heart of our work.
A key part of our journey will involve building greater awareness of your emotions. This isn’t just about recognizing how you feel but understanding the “why” behind it. By doing so, you’ll start to uncover patterns, heal old wounds, and discover more compassionate ways of relating to yourself and others.
My goal is to empower you—not just to heal, but to step into a fuller, more authentic version of yourself. Therapy isn’t just about solving problems; it’s about giving you the tools to navigate life’s challenges with strength and clarity.
Liat Adelman, LMSW's experience working with the Jewish community
Working with the Jewish community has been an incredibly rewarding journey that feels deeply personal and meaningful to me. Growing up immersed in Jewish traditions and values has given me a unique insight into the nuances and richness of our shared heritage. This connection allows me to approach my work with authenticity and a profound respect for the diversity of experiences within the community.
Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of collaborating with individuals, families, and organizations from across the Jewish spectrum. Each interaction has deepened my appreciation for the unique perspectives and strengths that different backgrounds and levels of observance bring. Whether navigating sensitive topics or celebrating milestones, I strive to approach every conversation with cultural awareness, empathy, and respect for the values that matter most.
I also understand that certain challenges faced within the Jewish community require tailored approaches that honor both tradition and individuality. Whether addressing family dynamics, spiritual struggles, or navigating modern challenges through a Jewish lens, my goal is to create a space where trust and open communication can flourish.
Ultimately, my strong connection to my Jewish identity, paired with my professional experience, has equipped me to work effectively and sensitively within the community. It’s a role I cherish and approach with humility, knowing how deeply impactful this work can be.
