Why Devora Segall, LCSW chose to be in the helping profession

Throughout my life, I've been deeply attuned to the emotions and needs of those around me, often sensing the unspoken struggles and pain that others experience. It was more than just a skill—it felt like a calling. As my children matured and became more independent, I felt a strong desire to extend this sensitivity and empathy beyond my family and use it to make a positive impact on others' lives. I realized I wanted to be there for those who felt overwhelmed, confused, or lost, offering them a space where they could feel truly seen and understood.

Becoming a therapist felt like a natural progression—a way to channel my ability to connect into meaningful change for others. In my work, I strive to explore and adopt innovative methods that not only alleviate my clients' suffering but also help them create the lives they envision for themselves. I find fulfillment in witnessing those subtle yet profound shifts that happen when a person realizes they have the power to reshape their life and relationships.

My approach as an attachment-oriented therapist allows me to work closely with both parents and children, fostering reconnection with themselves and each other. I believe that nurturing these relationships is essential for healing and growth. When the bonds that tie families together are strong, it creates a ripple effect, strengthening each member’s ability to navigate challenges with resilience and understanding.

Additionally, as a solution-focused therapist, I strive to help my clients uncover their inherent strengths and resources. I see each person as already possessing the tools they need to build a fulfilling life. Together, we work to identify practical strategies for addressing the issues they face, empowering them to take charge of their lives and feel more in control of their future.

Ultimately, my goal is to support individuals in discovering their potential and finding the paths that lead to greater fulfillment and happiness. I am driven by the belief that with the right support, everyone has the capacity to create a life they are proud of and relationships that feel enriching. In this way, I hope to leave a lasting impact that extends beyond the therapy room and into the lives of those I work with.

Devora Segall, LCSW's approach

I take a strengths-focused approach to therapy, meeting you exactly where you are in your journey while gently guiding you to explore new perspectives and skills. I believe that deep within every person lies a reservoir of untapped potential and resilience, waiting to be accessed. My goal is to help you uncover and harness these inner strengths, empowering you to shape the life you truly desire. Together, we will work on unlocking the positive qualities within you, fostering growth and transformation.

As a therapist specializing in Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), I provide clients with a powerful set of skills designed to help navigate life's challenges with greater ease. DBT is particularly effective in managing intense emotions and building healthier relationships. I’m passionate about supporting women who have experienced trauma, and I use an integrative approach that combines DBT techniques with Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR), Internal Family Systems (IFS), and various somatic practices. This blend of therapies allows us to work at different levels—cognitively, emotionally, and physically—ensuring a more comprehensive healing experience.

Beyond traditional talk therapy, I incorporate expressive arts and sand tray therapy into our sessions. These creative modalities offer a different pathway for self-expression, especially when words are not enough. Art and sand tray therapy allow for a deeper exploration of feelings, enabling you to access parts of yourself that might otherwise remain hidden. By bringing together these therapeutic tools, we create a space where you can safely process your experiences and discover new ways to express your emotions.

I believe in the power of creating a supportive, non-judgmental environment that nurtures healing and growth. Whether through structured techniques or creative exploration, our work together will be tailored to your unique needs and preferences. Ultimately, my role is to walk alongside you as you tap into your inherent strengths, release what no longer serves you, and move toward the version of yourself you’ve always envisioned.

What you can expect from sessions with Devora Segall, LCSW

During our time together, I encourage you to take the lead in shaping the direction and focus of our discussions. This is your space, and I want you to feel empowered to bring up whatever feels most pressing or relevant to you. I’m here to listen attentively and to truly understand your experiences, feelings, and perspectives. I will reflect thoughtfully on what you share and offer insights and practical strategies tailored to your needs and goals.

My primary aim is to create a safe and secure environment where you feel comfortable expressing yourself freely. I understand that meaningful growth can only occur when there is trust and a sense of safety in the therapeutic relationship. I want you to know that whatever you bring into our sessions will be met with respect, understanding, and a non-judgmental attitude.

In addition to providing a safe space, I am dedicated to helping you cultivate the life you envision by fostering deeper connections with yourself and the people who matter most to you. We will explore ways to enhance your relationships, so they become sources of support, joy, and strength. I believe that healing happens in the context of relationships—whether it’s the relationship you have with yourself, your loved ones, or the wider world. Strengthening these bonds will lay the foundation for greater emotional well-being and fulfillment.

Together, we will work on identifying what’s important to you and finding practical tools and strategies that support your aspirations. Whether you’re looking to navigate a difficult life transition, build healthier coping mechanisms, or deepen your self-awareness, my goal is to guide you toward a more balanced, authentic, and meaningful life.

Devora Segall, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community

Growing up in a yeshiva community provided me with valuable insight into the unique strengths and challenges faced by those around me. It’s given me a deep appreciation for the values, traditions, and dynamics that shape our close-knit world, along with a nuanced understanding of the cultural and religious sensitivities that are part of everyday life. Over the course of seven years, I worked at a community mental health clinic, where I had the privilege of serving various segments of the Jewish community. This experience allowed me to witness firsthand the resilience and courage of individuals navigating complex life situations.

In my role at the clinic, I collaborated with individuals across the lifespan—from young children and adolescents to adults and families—offering support and guidance tailored to their unique circumstances. Working alongside mentors and colleagues, I engaged with people from different backgrounds within the Jewish community, always striving to provide care that honored their values and traditions. Whether addressing relational dynamics, emotional health, or navigating religious and cultural concerns, I approached each case with sensitivity and respect.

It has been immensely rewarding to contribute positively to the well-being of our community, helping individuals and families feel more connected, understood, and supported. My goal is always to foster a sense of strength and empowerment, so each person I work with feels equipped to handle their challenges and thrive within their personal and communal lives.
