Why Yechiel Aharonof, LCSW, CASAC-T chose to be in the helping profession

From a young age, I’ve felt drawn toward helping people find a way through their pain. I’ve seen how powerful simply being fully present with another person can offer strength. That kind of connection has the ability to move someone from feeling stuck and hopeless to feeling empowered and capable of making meaningful changes in their life. It’s not about fixing everything, but about showing up with compassion, consistency, and belief in their resilience.

I have a special place in my heart for those dealing with addiction and trauma. These are not just areas I trained in — they are deeply personal to me because I’ve had close friends and relatives carry those heavy burdens. I understand how hard it can be to put that kind of pain into words or to even know where to begin. My hope is to be someone who helps others make sense of what they’re feeling and gently guides them toward a place where healing, clarity, and hope become possible.

Yechiel Aharonof, LCSW, CASAC-T's approach

My main goal in therapy is to make sure you feel like a whole person, not a diagnosis, not a project, and not something that needs to be fixed. I don’t believe your struggle defines you. You are so much more than the pain you’re carrying, and your story deserves to be understood in the context of your life, your history, and your truth. Therapy, to me, isn’t about applying a formula. It’s about creating a space where you can show up as you are and feel truly seen and supported.

Everyone comes into therapy with their own set of experiences, beliefs, and ways of moving through the world. That’s why I don’t use a one-size-fits-all approach. I draw from a range of tools and methods depending on what feels most helpful for you. That might include Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Motivational Interviewing (MI), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Certified Clinical Trauma Professional Level II (CCTP-II) practices, Mindfulness-Based Stress Reduction (MBSR), or simply being fully present with you. Sometimes the most powerful thing I can offer is a safe space to be honest with yourself and begin to figure out what actually helps you feel better.

What you can expect from sessions with Yechiel Aharonof, LCSW, CASAC-T

If you’re struggling with addiction or trauma, there’s a good chance you’ve already tried to handle it on your own. Maybe you’ve made some progress, maybe you’ve slipped back, or maybe you’ve started to wonder if anyone truly understands what you’re going through. In our sessions, you won’t be judged, dismissed, or pressured to “just get over it.” This is your space to exhale, to be honest, and not to have to hold it all together by yourself.

Together, we’ll take a closer look at what’s going on beneath the surface, including the pain you carry, the patterns that keep repeating, and the part of you that’s simply looking for relief. I’m here to help you make sense of it, at your own pace, with patience and compassion. We’ll look for small, realistic steps that feel manageable. You don’t need to come in with all the answers. You just need to come as you are. We’ll figure out the rest together.

Yechiel Aharonof, LCSW, CASAC-T's experience working with the Jewish community

Growing up in a frum Orthodox home and attending frum yeshivas, I understand the unique experiences, expectations, and pressures that can come with a religious background. That perspective allows me to connect more deeply with clients who come from similar worlds. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of working in Jewish schools and clinics, supporting individuals and families navigating the complex realities of addiction, trauma, and emotional pain.

Whether I’m working with a teen, a young adult, or supporting the parents or family of someone who is struggling, I focus on meeting you where you are — within your hashkafa, your values, and your worldview. I’m not here to push any agenda. My goal is to listen, understand, and offer guidance that aligns with your life. I do my best to create a space where you feel safe, respected, and supported as you work through whatever it is you’re carrying.
