Why Shabsi Sorscher, LSW chose to be in the helping profession

Being the oldest child in a large family, I learned from a young age what it means to care for others and offer support. Nurturing and guiding those around me became second nature, shaping the way I see the world. For many years, I have been deeply involved in a Community Kollel, where I have had the privilege of walking alongside community members through both their joys and struggles. Whether lending a listening ear, offering encouragement, or helping someone find their footing during difficult times, I have always found deep fulfillment in being there for others.

I truly enjoy interacting with people, and few things bring me greater satisfaction than seeing someone become more resourceful, overcome their challenges, and experience healing. Choosing this profession felt like a natural step because I believe Hashem has given me a unique combination of personality, skills, and life experience that allow me to support others in a meaningful way. It is both a responsibility and a gift—one that I embrace with gratitude and purpose.

Shabsi Sorscher, LSW's approach

My approach is rooted in respect, warmth, and nonjudgmental support. I believe that every individual has strengths and resilience, and my role is to help clients recognize and build upon them. Through collaboration, we identify the coping strategies that work best for them while creating a clear vision for their preferred future.

I strive to foster hope, encouragement, and meaningful change, whether working with individuals seeking personal growth, families navigating conflict, or couples looking to strengthen their communication. No matter where a client is in their journey, I am committed to meeting them with understanding and guiding them toward their full potential.

What you can expect from sessions with Shabsi Sorscher, LSW

You can expect me to truly listen with care, without judgment, and to be fully present and compassionate in our work together. Our sessions will be a collaborative process where we take the time to understand what you are going through, discuss the challenges you are facing, and explore what you hope will be different in your life.

I will ask thoughtful questions that encourage self-reflection and help you gain deeper insight into yourself and your experiences. These questions will allow us to focus on what works best for you, uncover strengths you may not have recognized, and build on the progress you make. I believe that even the smallest steps forward are worth celebrating, and together, we will acknowledge your successes and use them as a foundation for continued growth. My goal is to support and empower you in a way that feels meaningful, practical, and aligned with your personal journey.

Shabsi Sorscher, LSW's experience working with the Jewish community

I have a deep and broad experience working with the Jewish community, both professionally and personally. On one hand, I come from a Yeshivish background and continue to learn in Kollel first seder. Much of my professional work involves engaging with B'nei Torah, and I also have significant experience working with Chassidim. I speak a decent amount of Yiddish and am an avid Kol Mevaser listener, which has given me additional cultural insight and connection.

At the same time, my work has extended to those with little or no formal Jewish background. Through my involvement with the Community Kollel, I have spent years learning with and guiding Jewish individuals who are exploring or reconnecting with their heritage. In my professional practice, I have worked with many clients who either had limited Jewish connection or struggled with their relationship to Judaism.

I also have the pleasure working at client's homes in my role at TeamCare. I meet with families and youths from different backgrounds in their homes, where I get to observe and support families at their home environment. That gives me the unique experience of interacting with family members that may have not otherwise came to my office, and to observe dynamics that I may not have otherwise understood as well. This helps me better understand what my clients are experiencing and to meet them where they are at.

As a potential client, you should know that I will understand you and where you are coming from. I am committed to respecting your Hashkafa, and you can feel assured that I will not push an agenda that goes against your values or beliefs. My role is not to provide spiritual guidance but rather to support you in the goals you set for yourself in therapy. I recognize that every individual has their own unique journey, struggles, and relationship with Hashem and Judaism, and I approach each client with understanding, respect, and an open mind. My focus will always be on your personal growth and well-being, in a way that feels comfortable and authentic to you.
