For me, being entrusted with the intimate aspects of my clients’ lives is an honor I deeply cherish. I approach this work with empathy and a genuine desire to effect positive change. I find immense fulfillment in being able to make a tangible difference in people’s lives on a personal level. In times of profound struggle, having a supportive figure and a safe space to turn to becomes essential.
From an early age, I naturally gravitated toward being a confidant for friends seeking solace and guidance. I recognized my aptitude for attentive listening and came to value the depth of those exchanges. Over time, this led me to pursue a career in mental health. Clients often acknowledge the thoughtfulness behind my questions, which reflects the depth of understanding built through active listening and attunement to both spoken and unspoken cues.
Often, individuals do not immediately identify their experiences as trauma and instead present with anxiety, depression, or a sense of disconnection from themselves, their surroundings, or their relationships. Throughout my professional journey, I have been dedicated to helping clients navigate and heal from these deep-seated wounds, particularly those rooted in early childhood experiences. Whether working with children and families or supporting adults, I focus on creating space to acknowledge and process past trauma. This process lays the foundation for healthier, more fulfilling lives and more meaningful connections with family, friends, colleagues, and the broader community.
Robyn Sheiniuk, LCSW's approach
I view individuals as complex beings shaped by a wide range of experiences, both positive and negative, that begin in childhood. These early experiences, along with the messages received from important figures in one’s life, contribute to the formation of identity and influence how a person navigates the world and their relationships. In our sessions, using a psychodynamic framework, we will work together to explore the meaning of these experiences and messages. The goal is to better understand how they continue to show up in your present sense of self and in your interpersonal dynamics.
Alongside psychodynamic therapy, I bring specialized training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy. This approach can be a powerful tool for reprocessing traumatic memories and reducing the intensity of the emotions attached to them. It can allow you to recall difficult events without feeling as though you are reliving them, and to gain more control over intrusive thoughts or images that may disrupt your emotional state or daily life. Through EMDR, we work toward shifting traumatic memories into a more manageable place, so they no longer feel overwhelming and can be integrated with greater ease and stability.
What you can expect from sessions with Robyn Sheiniuk, LCSW
Our work together begins with a comprehensive intake session, where we take time to understand who you are at your core and the layered experiences that have shaped you. We look closely at your origins, your current challenges, and what you are hoping to move toward, so that therapy can be tailored to your unique needs. I use a psychodynamic approach as the foundation for this exploration, which allows us to better understand the patterns, meanings, and internal dynamics that influence your life today. This process often brings forward meaningful insights and “ah-ha” moments that help deepen self-awareness throughout our work together.
Alongside psychodynamic therapy, I integrate Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy into sessions when appropriate. This approach is especially effective in working through trauma, anxiety, and depression in a focused and structured way. Unlike traditional talk therapy, EMDR relies less on verbal processing and instead uses bilateral stimulation, such as side-to-side eye movements, to help the brain reprocess distressing experiences. This method supports the nervous system in integrating difficult memories so they feel less overwhelming over time. The goal is to create a clearer path toward healing, emotional steadiness, and greater resilience in daily life.
Robyn Sheiniuk, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community
Growing up in a secular Jewish environment and now being an active member of an Orthodox community, I bring a nuanced understanding to my work with Jewish clients. I am familiar with the complexities of navigating different levels of observance, community expectations, and the internal and external pressures that can come with that. I understand how important it is to work with a therapist who genuinely “gets it” and is sensitive to the lived realities within your specific community context. At the same time, I recognize that every person’s relationship to Judaism is unique, and I meet you wherever you are on that spectrum without assumption or judgment.
With the accessibility of telehealth, I am able to offer support to Jewish clients who are looking for a culturally attuned therapist while still maintaining appropriate professional boundaries and objectivity. This also provides a greater sense of privacy and ease, allowing you to engage in therapy without concern about crossing paths in everyday community life. My goal is to create a space that feels safe, respectful, and grounded, where you can speak openly about your struggles, identity, and questions. In doing so, I aim to support you in exploring your experiences within Judaism in a way that feels authentic, steady, and aligned with who you are.
