One of my lifelong passions has always been getting to know people and discovering their spark. I am curious about what moves them, what makes them laugh, what wounds them, and what fuels their resilience. Early on, when it came time to choose a profession, psychology felt too abstract and distant. Yet over time, I came to deeply appreciate the essential role of mental health and the profound impact of caring for one’s psychological wellbeing on overall health. That realization guided me toward a career where I could truly make a difference in people’s lives.
I am committed to helping individuals uncover their inner spark and inner strength, the qualities that make them unique and significant in both their personal world and the wider world around them. I work with people to process past traumas, reclaim their resilience, and embrace the traits that empower them to thrive. My goal is to provide a supportive space where clients feel seen, understood, and equipped to navigate life’s challenges while honoring their individuality and growth. There is nothing more fulfilling to me than witnessing someone reconnect with their power and recognize the importance of their own journey.
Rebeca Michaan's approach
My approach to therapy is rooted primarily in Ferenczy's empathic method, where my goal is to truly "feel with" (EinfĂĽhlung) my clients as they navigate their experiences. By attuning to what they are going through, I strive to build a strong and trustworthy therapeutic relationship, one where they feel safe enough to explore past traumas and confront their effects. I aim to help bring light into the inner darkness, supporting clients as they uncover their resilience and rediscover their sense of self.
In addition, I incorporate principles from Jewish Gestalt Therapy, which I am currently studying and integrating into my practice. This perspective deepens my work by encouraging present-moment awareness and fostering authentic connection, both with oneself and with others. My intention is to create a space where clients can explore their emotions fully, process difficult experiences, and emerge with renewed insight and strength. Therapy, for me, is about walking alongside people as they reclaim their inner light and cultivate their own unique path toward healing.
What you can expect from sessions with Rebeca Michaan
I hope that my clients feel truly safe in our sessions, knowing that I am committed to creating a space where they can slowly release their blockages and explore their experiences without judgment. My aim is to offer a supportive environment where they can unravel difficult emotions at their own pace, feeling understood and validated throughout the process.
I hope we can build a genuine partnership, one where we face the challenging and sometimes scary parts together. By navigating these experiences side by side, we can work toward healing the wounds that need attention and uncovering the strength and resilience that already exist within them. For me, therapy is a collaborative journey of trust, courage, and transformation.
Rebeca Michaan's experience working with the Jewish community
I have had the privilege of working in a religious elementary school for girls, where I was able to support young students in their academic, emotional, and personal growth. This experience allowed me to witness the resilience, curiosity, and individuality of each child, and to understand how early guidance and encouragement can shape a person’s confidence and sense of self. Being part of their daily lives gave me a deep appreciation for the importance of empathy, patience, and presence in helping others navigate their challenges.
In addition, I have worked on an emergency hotline, providing anonymous support to members of the community during moments of crisis. This role strengthened my ability to listen deeply, respond with care, and provide a safe space for people to be heard without judgment. It taught me the value of building trust quickly and the power of simply being present for someone in their most vulnerable moments. Both of these experiences have shaped my approach to therapy, emphasizing connection, understanding, and compassionate support for individuals at every stage of life.
Rebeca Michaan's Book Recommendation Zone
- The missing piece
It was missing a piece. And it was not happy. What it finds on its search for the missing piece is simply and touchingly told. - Emotionary
The Emotionary describes, in simple terms and with colored illustrations, forty-two emotional states so that children (and adults) can learn to identify them and therefore learn how to say what they are really feeling. - The Hunger Habit: Why We Eat When We're Not Hungry and How to Stop
Sometimes it feels as if there are as many ways to struggle with food as there are foods to eat. Craving, habit, emotions, boredom, stress, anxiety, or just the simple fact that a box of donuts seems to be omnipresent in the break room (free food!) can lead to feeling out of control around food. While anxiety feels like something that happens to us, the pull of food seems like something we should be able to handle. After all, we have to eat! But it's not that simple. The result of this constant struggle--and then giving in or giving up--is a toxic cocktail of shame and self-judgment that makes it feel like it is impossible to change our behavior.
