Mirel Goldstein, LMHC, LPC's style
🎯 Direct 💪 Challenging 🥇 EmpoweringWhy Mirel Goldstein, LMHC, LPC chose to be in the helping profession
I’m an award-winning therapist, Columbia University–trained, with over 24 years of experience. I’m also a published author and college professor, and at the core of everything I do are the same three passions: helping people, writing, and teaching. These roles naturally inform my work in the therapy room, where I bring both depth and clarity to the process. I care deeply about creating a space where you feel understood, supported, and able to be fully yourself.
In the therapy office, my style is direct and a bit different from what you may expect. I tend to cut to the chase, helping you explore unconscious thoughts and feelings, and identifying the patterns and themes that may be playing out in your life and relationships. I work with you to feel more empowered to set boundaries, speak up, and recognize that your needs matter. Therapy is not always comfortable, and I am honest about that, but I do my best to create a space that feels safe while still gently pushing you beyond your comfort zone, because that is often where real growth happens.
Mirel Goldstein, LMHC, LPC's approach
I help break down complex situations, thread by thread, so you can begin to see more clearly what is “your issue” and what is “their issue,” especially when relationships feel confusing or leave you doubting yourself. Together, we look beneath the surface at the underlying psychological patterns playing out in your life, so you can gain the clarity and insight needed to make meaningful mental shifts. My goal is not just to help you understand what is happening, but to help you see it in a way that actually changes how you experience it. When things start to make sense, you’re able to respond differently, with more confidence and intention.
I also work with you to identify your specific challenges and develop practical strategies for change. Therapy with me tends to be fast paced and direct, and I’m actively engaged in helping you move forward rather than staying stuck in the same place. If you’re looking to be both challenged and empowered, and you’re open to doing the work that growth requires, I’d love to help guide you through that process.
What you can expect from sessions with Mirel Goldstein, LMHC, LPC
Your role in this process is to share, talk, and explore your thoughts, feelings, and vulnerabilities as openly as you can. I will often ask you to say what’s on your mind, even if it means sitting through an awkward silence or taking a moment to find the words. Those pauses can be just as important as the words themselves, and they are part of how we begin to understand what’s happening beneath the surface. Together, we will start examining your inner world through a psychoanalytic, exploratory lens, with curiosity rather than judgment.
I will help you discover your own voice and develop a stronger sense of certainty, especially if you tend to doubt yourself or second guess your instincts. Part of our work will be identifying the thoughts and behaviors that may be reinforcing your anxiety, and gently challenging those patterns so they no longer hold the same power. I will also encourage you to face your fears, at a pace that feels manageable but still moves you forward. The goal is for you to leave with a deeper understanding of yourself and the confidence to act on it.
Mirel Goldstein, LMHC, LPC's experience working with the Jewish community
I’ve been working with frum and non-frum clients for the past 24 years, and I approach each person with openness and respect for who they are. Whatever your background or orientation, I don’t judge. I make a real effort to look beyond labels and assumptions, and instead focus on understanding you as a whole person, with your own experiences, struggles, and strengths.

Mirel is an exceptionally thoughtful and skilled clinician with deep expertise in psychodynamic therapy and psychoanalysis. Her work reflects a rare combination of intellectual rigor, emotional attunement, and genuine curiosity about the inner life of her clients. What sets her apart is her ability to listen beneath the surface—to notice patterns, themes, and meanings that others might miss—and to reflect them back in a way that feels both clarifying and compassionate. Sessions feel purposeful and grounded, and over time the work leads to real insight, growth, and lasting change rather than quick fixes. She creates a space that feels safe, respectful, and deeply containing, which makes it possible to explore complex emotions and long-standing issues at a meaningful depth.
