Why Leah Roman, MSW chose to be in the helping profession

I have always found great joy in working with people. There's something profoundly rewarding about guiding others towards building healthier and happier relationships with themselves. This passion for helping others has been a significant part of my journey.

Throughout my life, I have undergone extensive personal healing. This process has not only allowed me to understand myself better but also to gain valuable insights and perspectives that I now eagerly share with others. It feels incredible to use my experiences to support and empower those who are on their own paths to self-discovery and healing.

Being in the helping profession allows me to connect with people on a deeper level, offering them the tools and guidance they need to improve their lives. Whether it's through listening, providing advice, or simply being there for someone, the opportunity to make a positive impact is immensely fulfilling. This is why I chose to dedicate myself to this field, where I can continually contribute to the well-being of others while also growing and learning alongside them.

Leah Roman, MSW's approach

My therapeutic approach is centered around honoring the wisdom housed within our bodies. I firmly believe that our physical selves are repositories of profound insights and experiences. By attentively listening to the language of sensations and the narratives expressed through different parts of the body, we can unravel layers of emotional pain and facilitate deep healing. This process is not merely about addressing symptoms or surface-level issues; it's about delving into the core of our being to unearth and transform the root causes of distress.

Central to my philosophy is the idea that feeling safe and secure within our bodies is fundamental to our ability to navigate the world and cultivate authentic connections with ourselves and others. When we establish this internal sanctuary, we empower ourselves to engage more fully in life, to embrace vulnerability, and to foster meaningful relationships.

In my practice, I take a holistic approach that goes beyond traditional methods. I integrate elements of mindfulness, somatic experiencing, and other body-oriented techniques to address the interconnectedness of mind, body, and spirit. This comprehensive approach allows for a more integrated and effective healing process, where each person's unique journey is honored and supported.

As a practitioner, I see myself not simply as a social worker, but as a facilitator of profound personal transformation. My aim is to empower individuals to tap into their innate resilience, to discover their own paths to healing, and to reclaim a sense of wholeness and vitality in their lives.

Leah Roman, MSW's experience working with the Jewish community

My experience working within the Jewish community spans both my personal journey and professional career. Originally from Flatbush, I have deep roots in Jewish tradition, having attended Bais Yaakov and cultivated a profound understanding of Jewish life through my upbringing. This background has imbued me with insights and a unique perspective on the complexities and richness of Jewish identity and community dynamics.

Professionally, I have dedicated myself to working with teens, young adults, and families within various roles. These positions have consistently involved individuals who are part of or deeply connected to Jewish communities. Through my work, I've had the privilege of engaging with the diverse needs and challenges within these communities, offering support and guidance grounded in cultural sensitivity and understanding.

Living in Israel now, I continue to draw from my experiences in the US and my ongoing journey within Judaism to inform my practice. I approach my work with a deep respect for the traditions and values that shape the lives of those I serve. My goal is to foster a supportive and inclusive environment where individuals can explore their identities, address challenges, and find meaning within their cultural and spiritual heritage.
