Why Laura Schneebaum, LMHC-D chose to be in the helping profession

I was initially drawn to this field because of a deep desire to understand and help others. Even from a young age, I found myself wanting to listen, to make sense of people’s experiences, and to be someone others could turn to. As I began studying psychology and counseling, my interest only grew. The more I learned, the more it all resonated with me. I became fascinated by how people’s minds work, how past experiences shape us, and how powerful the right kind of support can be.

Seeing how people in my own life benefited from having this kind of space and guidance made it even more personal for me. It showed me how healing and life-changing it can be to feel truly seen and supported. That’s what inspired me to move forward and really commit to this path. I felt a strong pull to advocate for those who are struggling and to walk with people through the process of healing and finding strength again. That’s what keeps me connected to this work and fuels my passion for it every day.

Laura Schneebaum, LMHC-D's approach

I take a trauma-informed, client-centered, and strengths-based approach to working with each individual. I place great importance on understanding a client’s identity, culture, context, and environment to create a personalized approach that truly fits their unique experience. I believe both the therapeutic relationship and the process itself can be inherently healing and empowering. My goal is to meet each client where they are, offering support that feels safe, respectful, and attuned.

I believe it’s not enough to focus solely on the symptoms a client is experiencing. It’s just as important to explore the experiences and circumstances that led them to where they are today. So often, people develop coping skills in response to difficult or traumatic situations—skills that once helped them survive, but later become sources of stress or disconnection. By gently exploring how those patterns formed, I help clients better understand themselves and begin the process of healing in a more holistic and meaningful way.

Laura Schneebaum, LMHC-D's experience working with the Jewish community

I first began working with Jewish clients at an outpatient mental health clinic, and since then, I’ve gained extensive experience supporting women within the Jewish community. Over time, I’ve developed a strong understanding of many cultural nuances, while also staying open and curious about the diversity that exists across different communities and backgrounds. I always welcome conversations that help deepen that understanding.

I’m particularly passionate about helping Jewish individuals navigate areas where they may feel a disconnect between religious or cultural expectations and other parts of their identity or life experience. I also care deeply about supporting those working through the impact of intergenerational trauma and antisemitism. It’s important to me to create a space that feels both culturally sensitive and emotionally safe.
