Kari Menachem, LCSW's style
👂 Listener 🥇 Empowering 🧘 Calm 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Kari Menachem, LCSW chose to be in the helping profession
I believe our early experiences play a significant role in our current thoughts, behaviors, and attitudes. When I was younger, I had a hard time sitting with uncomfortable thoughts and feelings. I would usually rationalize them to prevent myself from feeling sadness, rejection, and loneliness. Making sense of what I was feeling seemed easier than allowing myself to actually feel it.
Through getting curious about those parts of myself, I have been able to release some of the power they hold over me and feel more connected with myself and others. That experience is a meaningful part of what draws me to this work. I know how hard it can be to make room for feelings you have spent so much time trying to avoid. I want to offer others a warm, supportive place to begin that process, with a focus on what is bothering them right now.
Kari Menachem, LCSW's approach
I work with adults who are facing a range of challenges, including anxiety, depression, bipolar disorder, PTSD, stress, and major life changes. Whatever you’re going through, you don’t have to face it alone. My style is warm, collaborative, and flexible. I want to understand what has been difficult for you, how it is affecting your life, and what you hope might feel different through our work together.
I draw from different approaches, like CBT, DBT, IFS, and trauma-informed therapies, depending on what feels most helpful for you. Together, we will explore how your early experiences may be playing a significant role in your current thoughts, behaviors, and attitudes. We will also pay attention to what is bothering you right now and find ways to help you respond to those challenges. There is room for us to adjust as we go, talk about what is working, and be honest about what isn’t.
What you can expect from sessions with Kari Menachem, LCSW
You don’t need to feel ashamed of your feelings or know exactly how to explain them before coming to therapy. You and I will gently process difficult feelings, creating space for them to arise without them enveloping you. We can take our time with the things that feel overwhelming or hard to put into words. You don’t have to share everything at once or push yourself further than you feel ready to go.
I believe deeply in the strength people already carry within them, even when it feels buried or out of reach. Part of our work will be getting curious about what makes that strength difficult to access and what helps you feel more connected to yourself. Some sessions may involve exploring something painful, while others may give you room to pause and better understand what you need. If you’re ready to explore, heal, or simply take a breath, you’re in the right place.
Kari Menachem, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community
As a Jewish therapist, my faith and identity are central to who I am. Through involvement in different Jewish communities, I have developed a deep appreciation for the unique cultural values, traditions, and experiences that shape individuals and families. I recognize how religious identity, family dynamics, community, and faith can influence personal struggles, relationships, and life decisions. I also know that being part of the same community does not mean we all experience these things in the same way, and I want to understand what they mean to you personally.
Especially during this time, I believe it is more important than ever for us to come together as a Jewish community, support one another, and ensure that everyone feels safe, understood, and connected. Giving back to the community is deeply meaningful to me. I strive to create a therapeutic space where you feel comfortable exploring your challenges while honoring your cultural and religious identity. That includes room to talk openly about the ways faith and community support you, as well as the questions or difficulties you may be carrying.

What people have to say about working with me:
-
I have known Kari for approximately two years and have overseen her supervisory work with interns. She holds the role of Clinical Supervisor and I am the Director of Supervision at the tele-mental-health company where we both work. Kari is a skilled clinician and has done great work as a supervisor—supporting clinicians in training and helping them develop their clinical skills. In my experience, Kari handles feedback well, and I have never noticed any issues in that regard.
