Why Gavriel Tornek, MFT chose to be in the helping profession

I've been working on myself for as long as I can remember, and that journey has given me a deep appreciation and insight into the world of self-improvement. I know firsthand that growth takes work, reflection, honesty, and a willingness to look within ourselves. When people want to improve themselves, they deserve to have someone there to help them along the way. If that insight was gifted to me, then I feel obliged to pass it forward through the Helping Professions and to be there for others as they work toward becoming the best versions of themselves.

My own journey has shaped the way I see the work I do with others. I believe that there is always room for growth, greater understanding, and meaningful change, regardless of where someone is in life. It is a privilege to be able to walk alongside people as they explore themselves, work through challenges, and discover what is possible for them. For me, this work is not simply about helping someone fix a problem, but about helping them understand themselves more deeply and move forward with greater clarity and purpose.

Gavriel Tornek, MFT's approach

We were created with an innate need to connect. Just as our souls wish to connect with our Creator, our bodies manifest this need through our connection with other people. We need meaningful relationships, to feel understood, and to know that we are not alone in what we experience. I believe therapy can become a model relationship for this kind of deep connection, creating a space where a person can learn to connect more deeply with themselves and, in turn, with the people in their lives.

In short, this is my approach to therapy: to deeply connect with my clients so that they can learn to deeply connect with themselves and others. I believe that the therapeutic relationship itself can be a powerful part of the process. When someone feels truly seen, understood, and accepted, they can begin to look at themselves with greater honesty and compassion. From that place of connection, meaningful growth and change can take place.

What you can expect from sessions with Gavriel Tornek, MFT

You can expect to be seen, understood, listened to, and challenged to achieve your desired goals. I believe that being truly heard is an important part of the therapeutic process, but therapy is also about moving forward and creating meaningful change. My role is not simply to listen, but to engage with you, understand where you are coming from, and help you look at the things that may be keeping you from where you want to be.

At the same time, I recognize that every person is different and that there is no one-size-fits-all approach to growth. Together, we can explore what you need, what you hope to accomplish, and what may help you get there. My goal is for you to feel comfortable enough to be honest while also feeling supported and appropriately challenged. Ultimately, I want you to leave therapy with greater insight, connection, and the ability to achieve the goals that brought you there.

Gavriel Tornek, MFT's experience working with the Jewish community

My experience working with the Jewish community has been a wonderful and truly privileged opportunity. I see it as an opportunity to work with Hashem's children, each of whom is so vastly different from the next. It is impossible to label people or put them into any kind of specific category, and I believe that recognizing each person's individuality is an essential part of meaningful therapeutic work.

Every person brings their own story, experiences, relationships, struggles, strengths, and way of understanding the world. Working within the Jewish community has allowed me to appreciate the incredible diversity that exists within it while also understanding the importance that faith, values, family, and community can have in a person's life. I feel fortunate to be able to work with people as individuals rather than as labels, and to meet each person where they are on their own unique journey.
