Why Sarina Hofstatter, LCSW chose to be in the helping profession

Naturally, lending a helping hand and offering support to others has always been an intrinsic part of who I am. When contemplating a career path, it became evident that aligning my professional pursuits with this innate quality was not only logical but also gratifying. I pride myself on being an attentive and empathetic listener, and the fusion of these skills positions me to connect effectively with my clients.

Passion is the driving force behind my work, and I consider myself fortunate to derive genuine enjoyment from my daily endeavors. My journey of personal growth has been transformative, allowing me to gain profound clarity and insights into my own challenges. This experience has fueled my desire to extend similar assistance to others navigating their own paths of self-discovery.

Witnessing clients overcome obstacles and achieve personal growth is an unparalleled reward. I find great fulfillment in being a part of their transformative journey, motivating me to persist in the meaningful work that I do.

Sarina Hofstatter, LCSW's approach

In my therapeutic practice, I embrace a collaborative partnership with my clients. It is paramount to me that individuals feel a sense of comfort and safety when unveiling their vulnerabilities and challenges. Recognizing the inherent apprehension in opening up to a stranger, I strive to create an environment that is supportive, non-judgmental, and accepting, fostering a space where clients can freely share.

I advocate for an eclectic and individualized approach to therapy, drawing upon a blend of therapeutic modalities such as psychodynamic, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Trauma-Focused Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (TF-CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), and mindfulness. This eclectic framework enables me to tailor a unique treatment plan for each client, addressing their specific needs and circumstances. I have found that this personalized approach is most effective in facilitating meaningful progress and growth for my clients.

What you can expect from sessions with Sarina Hofstatter, LCSW

I consider the therapeutic relationship to be the cornerstone of effective therapy. My primary objective is to establish a strong and trusting connection with my clients, creating a space where they feel secure, supported, understood, accepted, and confident that their thoughts will be met with empathy, compassion, care, and encouragement. If a client experiences these elements in our work together, I consider our collaboration successful.

Many individuals I work with have undergone trauma or faced challenges in their relationships, and a healthy therapeutic alliance can be inherently healing. Building this relationship is a gradual process, acknowledging that trust is cultivated as clients share their reasons for seeking therapy. Together, we identify goals and collaboratively devise a plan to facilitate the desired changes in their lives.

During our sessions, I aim to empower clients, respecting their pace as we address the presenting issues. I gently encourage clients to step outside their comfort zones, fostering progress towards their goals and inner peace. Recognizing the inherent difficulty of the work, I strive to balance the challenge by gauging when and how much to push in each session while simultaneously offering unwavering support and encouragement. My overarching goal is to guide clients toward increased self-confidence, personal growth, and a deeper understanding of themselves.

Sarina Hofstatter, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community

Throughout my career, I have had the privilege of working with diverse groups within the Jewish community. A significant portion of my professional journey involved an exclusive focus on Holocaust survivors, a remarkable group that endured one of the most traumatic events in Jewish history. In this capacity, my work predominantly centered around trauma, addressing issues such as PTSD, anxiety, depression, challenges associated with aging, relationship dynamics, grief, and loss, as well as social isolation and loneliness.

In more recent times, my therapeutic endeavors have extended to working with both Jewish and non-Jewish adults facing similar issues such as anxiety, depression, relationship challenges, personality disorders, and trauma. As a therapist within the Jewish community, there are unique advantages and challenges. The shared background, alignment with Jewish values and morals, and the comfort clients feel when expressing themselves using Hebrew/Yiddish terms (e.g., Shabbos, yom tov, chol hamoed) are definite pros. However, I recognize the challenge where clients may harbor concerns about potential judgment from a religious therapist. Addressing these concerns is an integral part of my work, as I strive to establish a comfortable and judgment-free space where clients can openly share their thoughts and feelings.
