🎯 Direct 💙 Warm 💡 Solution-orientedWhy Ella R. Fischer, LCSW chose to be in the helping profession
I chose the helping profession out of a deep curiosity about human suffering and a genuine desire to understand it at its roots. I have always been drawn to the question of why people struggle the way they do, and what leads someone to cope with emotional pain through substances, patterns, or relationships that may ultimately create even more suffering. Rather than seeing these behaviors simply as problems to eliminate, I have always been interested in understanding what they are trying to solve and what pain may be underneath them. That curiosity continues to shape how I listen, how I ask questions, and how I support people in making sense of their own experiences.
Along the way, navigating my own health challenges deepened my appreciation for how profoundly the mind and body are connected, and how unseen pain can shape behavior in ways that are not always obvious from the outside. Living through those experiences strengthened my belief that people deserve to be met with compassion, patience, and genuine curiosity rather than judgment. This perspective guides my work today as I help people better understand themselves and the patterns they may feel stuck in. Together, we work toward greater clarity, self-awareness, and practical ways to respond more effectively to what hurts, so that healing can begin from a place of understanding rather than shame.
Ella R. Fischer, LCSW's approach
Coming to therapy often means carrying a lot with you. There may be questions, pain, or parts of yourself that have not felt fully understood for a long time. My approach is grounded in the balance between acceptance and change. It means fully honoring and allowing what is present while also building the skills needed to create a life that feels more meaningful, stable, and sustainable. Therapy becomes a space where both of those things can exist together: compassion for where you are and support for where you want to go.
I work from a trauma informed, DBT lens, recognizing that many emotional, behavioral, and relational patterns developed as ways the nervous system learned to survive and adapt. What may look like dysfunction on the surface often began as a strategy to cope with overwhelming experiences or emotions. Through DBT, we focus on practical skills that help bridge the gap between who you are and who you want to be. These skills can help you respond to difficult emotions, relationships, and stress in ways that feel more intentional and effective.
Your goals guide our work together. We take time to clarify what you want to move toward and what feels most important for you to address right now. Those priorities shape the direction of therapy so that the process stays grounded in what matters most to you. I see therapy as a collaborative process built on curiosity, respect, and shared intention, where the targets we identify become our shared focus as we work toward meaningful and lasting change.
What you can expect from sessions with Ella R. Fischer, LCSW
Therapy provides a safe space where the focus is fully on you—a place where you are seen, heard, and met with care, including the parts of yourself that may feel confusing, complicated, or difficult to voice. Often, the experiences we avoid naming carry the heaviest emotional weight, and holding them in the body over time can affect both emotional and physical well-being. Our sessions offer an opportunity to bring those experiences into the open, supported by curiosity, understanding, and compassion.
Sessions are both reflective and active. We explore patterns, reactions, and the gap between how you are currently living and the life you want to create. Together, we identify your mental health goals, uncover barriers, and determine practical next steps, while also building skills to respond more effectively to stress, emotions, and relationships. You can also expect regular check-ins about progress, goals, and fit. We continuously assess what feels helpful, what may need adjusting, and whether the pace and approach align with your needs, so that the work we do is meaningful and tailored to you.
Ella R. Fischer, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community
I spent approximately three years working in an integrated mental health and addiction treatment setting that served a diverse population, with a significant portion of clients identifying as Jewish. The program operated as a Kosher facility, and during that time I facilitated and participated in many group sessions that addressed both mental health and substance use concerns. These experiences reinforced for me that while cultural and communal contexts shape how we experience the world, emotional pain itself is universal. People across all communities struggle with depression, anxiety, grief, trauma, and relational challenges, and my focus is always on understanding what feels most important for each individual to address.
Growing up within the Jewish community has given me insight into how culture, family systems, values, and communal expectations can influence wellbeing. These personal experiences, paired with my clinical training, allow me to approach my work with both nuance and cultural humility. I strive to honor each person’s unique context while maintaining a human-centered approach, meeting them where they are and recognizing both the strengths and challenges that shape their experience. My goal is to create a space where individuals feel understood, supported, and empowered to navigate their mental health in ways that feel authentic and meaningful to them.

What people have to say about working with me:
-
Ella and I worked together on the same team running an IOP/PHP for Adults and I've known her for almost 5 years. She was just an absolute pleasure to work with. Ella is one of the hardest working people I've ever worked with. She is so passionate about being a social worker and she truly cares from the bottom of her heart about the people she works with. As far as feedback goes, Ella is beyond open to feedback and frequently asks for it! She values her work and strives to ensure she is doing everything she could be doing. I would recommend Ella any time and a thousand times over!

I am pleased to offer my recommendation and support for Ms. Fischer. I have known Ella for more than four years. I supervised her throughout her internship at Recovery at the Crossroads and found her to be a caring, empathetic, and a competent professional. Ella co-facilitated groups with me and demonstrated skillful practice and use of interventions. Her commitment to her craft is highly admirable and a tribute to her dedication.

I am honored and very happy to have the opportunity to give a review on Ella. I was Ellas’ supervisor for approx. 6 years as she worked with mentally challenged adults including severe psychiatric disorders. Ella has always proven herself to be extra sensitive and caring and communicated in a way that the individuals felt understood and validated. She is a great listener, great communicator, warm, sensitive and very non judgmental. In my opinion someone that is looking for a warm, compassionate yet professional therapist will find that in Ella.
