Adina Antar, LPC's style
đŻ Direct đ Warm đ Listener đ§ CalmWhy Adina Antar, LPC chose to be in the helping profession
As many helpers in the psychology field, I have had previous life experiences that led me to this path of supporting others who have faced similar challenges. I chose to become a therapist because of my natural empathy and my ability to listen deeply, while also using practical tools like problem solving and a bit of âplaying detective.â I enjoy helping clients who feel stuck to uncover what is keeping them in place, and then gently breaking those negative cycles so they can move forward. I believe that even small shifts can create meaningful change, and Iâm here to walk alongside you through that process.
My experience as a parent has also shaped my work, especially in supporting other parents through the difficult moments that can arise. Parenting can bring up a lot of emotions and uncertainty, and I aim to provide a safe space where you can explore what is happening without judgment. I also draw on my experience to connect with children and teens in a way that feels relatable and understandable to them. Whether youâre struggling with behavior, anxiety, communication, or feeling overwhelmed, Iâm here to help you feel more confident and supported in your role as a parent.
Adina Antar, LPC's approach
While my foundation in therapy is rooted in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Psychodynamic therapy, Gestalt, somatic therapy, and play therapy, I truly believe that therapy should never be a âone size fits allâ approach. Each person comes with their own unique story, life experiences, and reasons for seeking counseling. I take the time to understand who you are and what has brought you to therapy, and I tailor my approach to fit your individual needs. Therapy is most effective when it feels personally relevant and respectful of your journey.
I also strongly believe that the strongest predictor of progress and results is the therapeutic alliance between therapist and client. Without trust, support, and a sense of safety in the relationship, real growth is difficult to achieve. My goal is to meet you where you are and work alongside you as a unified team. When you feel heard, understood, and supported, youâre able to take meaningful steps forward in treatment, and that is what Iâm here to help you do.
What you can expect from sessions with Adina Antar, LPC
Through my warm and observational nature, I aim to help you feel comforted and supported while also helping you develop insight into what keeps you feeling stuck. Many people find themselves repeating the same cycles again and again, and Iâm here to help you notice the patterns that may be driving those experiences. While we work in the here-and-now to stay grounded in reality, we will also gently untangle the webs created by past relationships and events. The goal is to help you move forward feeling more free, intuitive, and connected to yourself.
My work with children is similarly warm and supportive, creating a space where they can begin to understand and name their emotions. I believe emotional intelligence starts with feeling safe enough to explore whatâs going on inside, so they can learn how to cope with big feelings in a healthy way. When working with a child client, I also collaborate closely with parents to ensure there is a full support system in place. Together, we address any concerns and work on recommendations that can help the child at home and strengthen the parent-child relationship.
Adina Antar, LPC's experience working with the Jewish community
I grew up in the Modern Orthodox world in Brooklyn, NY, and attended Yeshiva through high school graduation. From there, I married and raised my children within the Modern Orthodox community, living in both Brooklyn and Deal, NJ, where I currently reside. My upbringing and life experiences have deeply shaped my understanding of the values, traditions, and challenges that come with being part of this community.
I also come from a mixed heritage, with my father being Sephardic and my mother Ashkenaz. This background has given me a unique opportunity to understand and appreciate both worlds, and to relate to the customs and cultures of Sephardic and Ashkenaz Jewry. I believe this perspective allows me to connect with clients from diverse backgrounds within the Jewish community and support them in a way that feels respectful, authentic, and culturally aware.

- It Didn't Start With You by Mark Wolyn
Depression. Anxiety. Chronic Pain. Phobias. Obsessive thoughts. The evidence is compelling: the roots of these difficulties may not reside in our immediate life experience or in chemical imbalances in our brainsâbut in the lives of our parents, grandparents, and even great-grandparents. The latest scientific research, now making headlines, supports what many have long intuitedâthat traumatic experience can be passed down through generations. - The Whole-Brain Child: 12 Revolutionary Strategies to Nurture Your Child's Developing Mind by Dan Siegel and Tina Payne Bryson
In this pioneering, practical book, Daniel J. Siegel, neuropsychiatrist and author of the bestselling Mindsight, and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson offer a revolutionary approach to child rearing with twelve key strategies that foster healthy brain development, leading to calmer, happier children. The authors explainâand make accessibleâthe new science of how a childâs brain is wired and how it matures. The âupstairs brain,â which makes decisions and balances emotions, is under construction until the mid-twenties. And especially in young children, the right brain and its emotions tend to rule over the logic of the left brain. No wonder kids throw tantrums, fight, or sulk in silence. By applying these discoveries to everyday parenting, you can turn any outburst, argument, or fear into a chance to integrate your childâs brain and foster vital growth. - The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom
On his 83rd birthday, Eddie dies in a tragic amusement park ride accident in an attempt to save a little girlâs life. He awakens in the afterlife, where he learns that heaven is not a lush Garden of Eden, but a place where your earthly life is explained to you by both loved ones and distant strangers. As the story builds to its stunning conclusion, Eddie desperately seeks redemption in the still-unknown last act of his life: Was it a heroic success or a devastating failure? The answer, which comes from the most unlikely of sources, is as inspirational as a glimpse of heaven itself. In The Five People You Meet in Heaven, Mitch Albom will change everything youâve ever thought about the afterlifeâand the meaning of our lives here on earth.
