😃 Humorous 💡 Solution-oriented 🥇 Empowering 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Robert Zev Wachsler, LMSW chose to be in the helping profession
I chose a helping profession after discovering the impact of supporting my own family through emotional challenges. Walking alongside loved ones during difficult moments showed me how powerful it can be to feel understood, supported, and not alone. Every parent wants their child to succeed, and it can be deeply painful to watch a child struggle internally without knowing how to help. Those experiences shaped both my professional path and my belief in the importance of compassionate, family-centered support.
Over time, I came to understand that even families who appear successful on the outside may be facing hidden difficulties with one or more of their children. When these struggles are acknowledged and approached with care, meaningful change becomes possible. Through collaboration, empathy, and shared effort, families can restore balance and strengthen their relationships. I believe in giving children the opportunity to grow and heal by working together as a family, creating space for connection, resilience, and lasting emotional well-being.
Robert Zev Wachsler, LMSW's approach
My approach to counseling is a blend of Child Centered Play, Filial Therapy, Child Parent Relationship Therapy, and Collaborative Problem Solving. Each of these modalities brings an important element to the work, and understanding how they fit together helps clarify the goals and expected outcomes of the process. Together, they create a framework that supports both emotional growth and practical change within the family. This blended approach allows me to meet children and parents where they are, while encouraging meaningful connection and progress.
Filial Therapy is largely attained through practicing listening skills and learning how to truly hear a child’s experience. Child Parent Relationship Therapy helps create a strong, positive environment in the home where children feel safe, understood, and supported. Collaborative Problem Solving creates space for behavioral issues to be explored together, with parent and child working side by side. The focus is on identifying what difficulty is preventing the child from succeeding and resolving those challenges together in a respectful and collaborative way.
What you can expect from sessions with Robert Zev Wachsler, LMSW
What you can expect from our sessions really depends on what the presenting concern is. For clarity, if the issue is that a 10-year-old child is having trouble getting ready on time for school, you can expect the Collaborative Problem Solving model to be the primary intervention. In this situation, we would likely collaborate over two to three sessions until the problem is resolved, bezH. The focus would be on understanding what is getting in the way of success and working together to create a workable solution.
If the same concern presents with a 5-year-old child, the process often takes longer. Sessions may extend to five or six, or sometimes more, because younger children need additional time to feel safe enough to express what is happening for them. Creating that sense of safety and trust is an essential part of the work and cannot be rushed. This example offers a general idea of what to expect, though it is not exhaustive, as other presentations may take more time, such as Autism Spectrum Disorder or more complex developmental and emotional needs.
Robert Zev Wachsler, LMSW's experience working with the Jewish community
My work is dedicated exclusively to the Jewish community, where I understand the unique values, needs, aspirations, and concerns of Jewish families. Working within this community allows me to approach each family with cultural awareness, sensitivity, and respect for what matters most to them. I recognize that every family’s situation is different, and I am mindful of the personal, emotional, and communal factors that shape each experience. This understanding guides the way I engage with both parents and children throughout the process.
Parents are invited to guide the work as we collaborate to establish meaningful and achievable goals. I work closely with mothers and fathers to ensure their voices are heard, respected, and honored at every step. Throughout the journey, I provide consistent support to parents as we navigate challenges together and build practical, thoughtful solutions. My goal is to help families feel supported, understood, and empowered as we work toward positive and lasting change.
