Why Rachel Levinson, LCSW chose to be in the helping profession

Connecting with people and offering comfort during difficult times has always been second nature to me. Growing up in a home steeped in Jewish values that emphasizes caring for others, empathy, and approaching life with sensitivity and kindness, I have always felt the calling to work with and help people.

These values have played a pivotal role in shaping the person I am today and fueling my genuine desire to assist those in need. Unfortunately, there is still a stigma surrounding mental health, causing many to struggle in silence without getting the help that they need. I strongly feel that everyone deserves support, and nobody should have to suffer in silence. If I can make a positive impact, even on just one person feeling isolated in their pain, I'll consider it a meaningful achievement.

Rachel Levinson, LCSW's approach

In my practice, I cultivate a warm, open, and empathetic atmosphere, aiming to establish a safe and non-judgmental space for my clients. Utilizing a strengths-based perspective, I strive to create an environment where individuals feel comfortable and supported. While drawing from various modalities such as CBT, ACT, IFS, Gottman and brief strategic approaches, I believe in tailoring my methods to suit the unique needs of each client.

While therapy can sometimes have the reputation of being a dark or sad space, I work to infuse positivity, hope, and even laughter into the process. I actively engage in collaborative and constructive conversations during sessions.

I hold profound respect for the autonomy of my clients, acknowledging that they know themselves better than anyone. Our therapeutic journey is a partnership, where we work together as equals toward the client's goals. In this way, I aim to create a positive, supportive space that encourages growth, self-discovery, and a sense of empowerment for each unique individual I have the privilege to work with.

When working with me you can expect a space that is objective, non-judgmental, and completely confidential—a place where your thoughts and feelings are heard and acknowledged. Whether that entails employing solution-focused strategies or delving into the exploration of childhood experiences, I am committed to meeting you where you are and ensuring you feel comfortable.

The nature of our sessions may vary, sometimes it may look like developing coping skills and practical tools, other times we may be exploring and processing emotions tied to your experiences. It's important to recognize that the trajectory of our therapy may evolve from week to week, adapting to your current needs and goals.

Rachel Levinson, LCSW's experience working with the Jewish community

My upbringing in a modern Orthodox Jewish community and household has shaped my life significantly. Navigating the realm of working with the Jewish community, I recognize that there is delicate balance required. It involves being a provider who has an understanding of the Jewish world and comprehends the unique challenges that individuals in Jewish communities may grapple with. Simultaneously, it also means avoiding assumptions simply because I may come from the same community; acknowledging that my background doesn't automatically grant me insight into every individual's experience.

In both my journey as a Jewish individual and my professional interactions with various Jewish communities, I appreciate that these experiences don't overshadow the individualized nature of clinical work with clients. I approach sessions with the understanding that each person is unique, and their experiences are multifaceted.

Clients engaging with my services can find reassurance in the fact that I comprehend the context of their lives, yet I am equally committed to entering sessions with an open mind, ready to learn and inquire without preconceived notions. Regardless of where one stands on the religious spectrum or how one connects with their Jewish identity, I approach each individual with genuine curiosity, compassion, and an absence of judgment.
