Why Gavriel Pliver, PMHNP-BC chose to be in the helping profession

Growing up in a family where members were actively engaged in caregiving roles, I witnessed firsthand the positive impact that compassionate care can have on patients, clients, and their families. This impact is even more pronounced when the service is rendered within our local community.

My initial experience as a bedside nurse at a local hospital in Lakewood, NJ, allowed me to care for a diverse range of patients, including many from the Jewish community. The richness of these experiences heightened my awareness of the unique needs of different populations.

As I pursued advanced education, culminating in a Master's in Nursing, it became evident that there was a significant demand for mental health professionals, especially within the Frum community. Motivated by this realization and guided by respected Rabbonim and mentors, I decided to transition from a medical focus to specializing in mental health care.

My journey began in nursing school, where I initially worked as a registered nurse on medical and step-down ICU floors. However, inspired by the guidance of mentors and Rabbeim, I intentionally shifted my focus toward the Mental Health specialty. This transition aligns with my commitment to address the specific needs of individuals within the Frum community, particularly in the realm of psychiatric care.

In choosing this path, I am dedicated to contributing to the well-being of others by providing compassionate and culturally sensitive mental health care. The decision to specialize in the Frum community stems from a deep sense of responsibility and a genuine desire to make a meaningful impact on the lives of those who may benefit from specialized psychiatric support.

Gavriel Pliver, PMHNP-BC's approach

As a psychiatric mental health prescriber, my philosophy revolves around embracing a holistic approach to wellness. Recognizing that mental health is intricately connected to various facets of our lives, I advocate for addressing the entirety of our being in the pursuit of mental wellness. This encompasses nurturing our physical, psychological, emotional, social, and spiritual needs.

In my practice, I adopt a collaborative approach with my clients. Rather than imposing treatment decisions, I believe in fostering a partnership where we work together toward optimal mental health. My role is not to dictate, but rather to educate and recommend based on a comprehensive understanding of each individual's unique circumstances.

By considering the interconnectedness of physical and mental well-being, acknowledging the significance of emotional and social factors, and recognizing the importance of spirituality, I aim to guide my clients on a path that aligns with their holistic health goals. This approach empowers individuals to actively participate in their mental health journey and promotes a sense of ownership over their well-being. Ultimately, my goal is to facilitate a collaborative and informed decision-making process that leads to comprehensive mental health wellness.
