💙 Warm 🥇 Empowering 🤝 CollaborativeWhy Leah Matyas, LMHC chose to be in the helping profession
Choosing a career in the helping profession is something that means a lot to me. At the heart of it, I genuinely want to make a positive difference in people’s lives. Seeing the struggles that individuals face, especially when it comes to mental health, has really opened my eyes and filled me with empathy and compassion.
I truly believe that everyone deserves to be seen, heard, and supported. Being part of this field allows me to be there for people during their toughest times, helping them navigate challenges and encouraging personal growth. There’s nothing quite like the feeling of helping someone overcome obstacles and find their way.
I’m also passionate about breaking down the stigma around seeking help, particularly in mental health. I want to create a space where people feel safe to share their thoughts and emotions, knowing they’re not alone in their struggles.
Ultimately, my choice to enter this profession is about turning my empathy into action. It’s a privilege to support others on their journeys, and I’m fully dedicated to making a positive impact on their lives.

Leah Matyas, LMHC's experience working with the Jewish community
My professional journey within the Jewish community has been both diverse and enriching. In my private practice, I’ve tailored therapeutic approaches to meet the needs of individuals from various backgrounds, carefully incorporating cultural considerations into my work. As a mental health consultant for Head Start, I provided culturally sensitive support to families, focusing on the developmental needs of young children. Additionally, my experience as a program assistant in an at-risk drop-in program for teenagers gave me valuable insights into the specific challenges faced by young people in the Jewish community.
Throughout these experiences, I’ve remained committed to creating safe and inclusive spaces. I prioritize open communication and building trusting relationships, recognizing how essential these elements are for fostering positive, meaningful outcomes in therapy. Allowing you to decide how and if you want to incorporate religion/Judaism into our sessions. My approach reflects a deep understanding of the nuances within the Jewish community, ensuring that my services are both professional and attuned to the unique cultural contexts of those I work with.
