Why Tsippy Kraus chose to be in the helping profession

Impacted by my own first birth, I became aware of how deeply childbirth experiences can shape a person’s emotional wellbeing, sense of safety, and identity as both a parent and a human being. As I began listening to people share their pregnancy and birth stories, I noticed how often distress and trauma were not only about the physical experience, but about the interactions with medical teams and care providers. Again and again, it seemed that the very people meant to provide safety were sometimes the ones who left individuals feeling dismissed, unheard, or unsupported. What stayed with me was how often fear, confusion, or emotional overwhelm went unspoken, carried long after the birth with little validation or space to process what had actually happened.

That awareness naturally drew me toward becoming a professional who could offer a safe, grounded presence for people needing space to make sense of their experiences. I provide trauma-informed support for individuals who want to process what they went through and begin moving toward healing at their own pace, without pressure or expectation. It is important to me to meet people where they are, and to help them feel heard, understood, and more connected to their own story. Being part of that process feels meaningful and necessary, and it continues to guide my ongoing learning and my commitment to advocating for more trauma-aware, compassionate care within maternity services.

Tsippy Kraus's approach

My belief is that understanding why the body is reacting the way it is can be the first step toward healing. Trauma cannot simply be talked away, and a “happy ending,” such as a healthy mother and baby, does not automatically resolve or erase what was experienced along the way. I see how important it is to name this clearly, because so many people are left feeling as if they should already be “fine” when they are not. Recognising the impact of what happened, rather than minimizing it, is often where real healing begins.

A trauma-informed approach, grounded in empathy, respect, and a strong belief in each person’s capacity to heal and grow, provides the foundation for meaningful recovery. In a safe, non-judgmental space where clients feel heard, validated, and supported, we take time to gently explore their experiences at a pace that feels right for them. I hold awareness of how past experiences, particularly around birth, can shape both emotional and physical wellbeing, and how deeply the body can carry those memories. Collaboration is central to how I work, and I tailor each session to the individual, drawing on a range of therapeutic techniques where appropriate. My goal is to help clients rebuild a sense of safety within themselves, strengthen resilience, and move forward with greater steadiness and inner trust.

What you can expect from sessions with Tsippy Kraus

Quick, impactful, goal-oriented trauma work is at the heart of how I support clients. Working together, session by session, we focus on gently reducing the emotional attachment to the trauma and beginning to create new, more supportive neural pathways. This is not about reliving everything in detail, but about helping the brain and body respond in a different way over time. The aim is steady progress that feels contained, purposeful, and manageable.

A core technique I use is called the Rewind. It helps reprocess difficult experiences and move them out of the active trauma template, where they can continue to trigger strong emotional or physical responses, into the brain’s “filing system,” where they no longer feel so immediate or overwhelming. Alongside this, we work with emotional regulation tools so you can maintain a greater sense of stability and safety outside of our sessions. In practical terms, this work supports you in moving forward without the constant weight of the trauma holding you back.

Tsippy Kraus's experience working with the Jewish community

In 2009, recognising the need for high-quality childbirth education within the community, I trained as a childbirth educator. Since then, I have been teaching Jewish women and couples from all backgrounds and levels of religious observance. This work has always felt deeply meaningful to me, as it allows me to support people at such an important and often vulnerable time in their lives. Over the years, I have seen how much difference clear, grounded, and respectful education can make to the birth experience.

Noticing a gap in specialised, culturally appropriate support for women experiencing mental health challenges during pregnancy and the postnatal period, I became part of the founding team of Menucha, a London-based organisation providing therapeutic support for all Jewish women with perinatal mood disorders. I later trained as a Birth Trauma Release Practitioner and have worked both with Menucha and in my own private practice, offering support in person and online via Zoom. In this work, I provide care for Jewish women all over the world in a non-judgemental and supportive environment, meeting each person where they are.

More recently, I founded Birth Journeys Online, an online childbirth education platform designed to ensure that Jewish couples worldwide have access to high-quality, culturally appropriate antenatal education. My goal has remained consistent throughout all of this work, which is to make support, education, and care more accessible, more sensitive, and more aligned with the real needs of the communities I serve.
