🎯 Direct 👂 Listener 💡 Solution-oriented 🐣 Out of the boxWhy Rivka Kramer, PMHNP-BC chose to be in the helping profession
As a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I chose this path because I’ve always felt a deep sense of compassion for people navigating mental health challenges. From a young age, I was drawn to the idea of helping others—not just offering guidance, but providing genuine care and understanding. The complexities of the human mind have always fascinated me, and I’ve long recognized that mental health is just as vital as physical health. In fact, the two are often deeply interconnected, shaping our overall well-being.
My goal has always been to make a meaningful impact in the lives of those I work with—not only by offering clinical expertise but also by creating a space rooted in empathy, acceptance, and growth. I understand how isolating and overwhelming mental health struggles can feel, which is why I approach each patient with a commitment to actively listen and truly understand their unique experiences.
I don’t just treat symptoms; I aim to help my patients rediscover their strengths and build resilience in the face of adversity. Every person is different, so I tailor my care to meet their specific needs, whether it’s managing mood disorders, anxiety, trauma, or other mental health conditions. My holistic approach emphasizes collaboration, ensuring we work together to develop a treatment plan that feels right for them. Whether through therapy, medication management, or lifestyle changes, I empower my patients to take an active role in their healing journey.
One of my core values is creating a safe, non-judgmental space. Mental health is often stigmatized, leaving many individuals burdened by shame or the fear of being misunderstood. I strive to be the kind of provider who not only understands the science of mental health but also connects with people on an emotional level—making them feel seen, heard, and respected.
I want my patients to know they can trust me with their vulnerabilities and that together, we will work toward healing and improving their quality of life. If you’re seeking a provider who blends clinical knowledge with genuine compassion and is committed to helping you unlock your full potential, I would be honored to partner with you. Your mental health matters, and together, we can work to achieve your goals for a brighter, more balanced future.
Rivka Kramer, PMHNP-BC's approach
My approach to psychiatry is rooted in an integrative model that considers the whole person—mind, body, and spirit. I believe mental health is deeply interconnected with physical health, and effective treatment requires a holistic perspective. Emotional well-being cannot be separated from factors like nutrition, sleep, exercise, and other lifestyle elements. My goal is not only to manage symptoms but also to support my patients in building a strong foundation for long-term mental wellness.
A unique aspect of my approach is the emphasis on nutritional elements in treatment. Research increasingly shows that diet plays a crucial role in mental health, influencing everything from mood regulation to cognitive function. I encourage my patients to explore how the foods they eat can either support or hinder their mental and emotional well-being. For instance, deficiencies in specific vitamins and minerals can contribute to symptoms of depression, anxiety, and even cognitive decline. Together, we assess nutritional habits and, when necessary, implement dietary changes that align with their mental health goals.
Whether it’s incorporating foods rich in omega-3s to support brain health or addressing blood sugar imbalances that affect mood, I take a proactive, evidence-based approach to the mind-body connection.
Beyond nutrition, I address other lifestyle factors critical to mental health, such as sleep hygiene, physical activity, and stress management. I believe in creating personalized treatment plans tailored to the unique needs of each individual. Depending on the situation, this may include psychotherapy, medication management, or lifestyle modifications. This integration of diverse treatment strategies allows me to offer comprehensive, patient-centered care.
At the core of my practice is the understanding that there is no one-size-fits-all solution. Each person’s mental health journey is unique, and I take the time to listen, assess, and collaborate to develop a plan that fits them best. Whether you’re navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, or another mental health challenge, my goal is to guide and support you in achieving both symptom relief and lasting resilience.
My integrative approach is designed to help you cultivate balance and vitality—mentally, emotionally, and physically—so you can live a healthier, more fulfilling life.

Rivka Kramer, PMHNP-BC's experience working with the Jewish community
In addition to my work as a Psychiatric Nurse Practitioner, I have had the privilege of working with OHEL, a highly regarded organization that provides services to individuals with developmental disabilities and mental health challenges. During my time at OHEL, I was involved in both their summer camp program and their group homes for seniors with disabilities. These experiences were profoundly formative, allowing me to work closely with individuals across the lifespan, including children, adults, and seniors.
In the summer camp, I supported children with developmental disabilities, helping them navigate social and emotional challenges within a structured and nurturing environment. At the group homes for seniors, I provided care and emotional support to individuals facing age-related challenges and disabilities. My role was focused on fostering a sense of community and belonging for some of the most vulnerable members of society. These experiences not only strengthened my clinical skills but also deepened my understanding of how individuals with disabilities, regardless of age, benefit from a compassionate and holistic approach to mental health.
My work at OHEL reinforced my belief in the importance of creating environments where individuals feel understood, respected, and empowered to engage in their own healing process. This philosophy has been foundational in my practice, influencing how I approach mental health care across diverse populations.
Additionally, my work with SPARKS, an organization dedicated to supporting women with perinatal mood disorders, has expanded my expertise in addressing mental health challenges within the Jewish community. Supporting Jewish women as they navigate pregnancy, and postpartum, and the unique pressures of family and community expectations has allowed me to integrate cultural understanding with evidence-based care. By combining my clinical knowledge with a nuanced awareness of these experiences, I am able to provide effective and compassionate support during this critical time in their lives.
Finally, my time at Maimonides Medical Center in their ICU cardiac stepdown unit, located in the heart of Boro Park, further strengthened my connection to the Jewish community. Caring for Jewish patients from diverse backgrounds helped me refine my ability to offer culturally sensitive psychiatric care that addresses both mental and physical health needs.
These experiences, along with my personal cultural perspective, have profoundly shaped my integrative approach to care. I value not only the clinical aspects of treatment but also the broader cultural and emotional context of each individual’s journey. My goal is to provide care that honors each person's unique challenges and strengths, empowering them to achieve greater well-being and resilience.
