Why Kimberly Johnson chose to be in the helping profession
Dr. Johnson is a New York State Licensed Mental Health Counselor who has worked in the clinical field since 1995. Grounded in client-centered treatment, Dr. Johnson combines humanistic and cognitive theory into her therapy practice. Throughout her career, Dr. Johnson has worked in various clinical settings and with a range of individuals, groups, and families; representing a wide array of ages, cultures and religious community backgrounds. She is fluent in American Sign Language and has developed specialties in adjustment to disability, wellness self-management, severe mental illness, trauma, compassion fatigue, loss, and infertility. Dr. Johnson has a long history of trauma and crisis-based service, including working with first responders onsite following September 11th and Superstorm Sandy. She continues as a member of the NYC Medical Reserve Corps REST team, the Nassau County Medical Reserve Corps, Nassau County CERT, the American Red Cross Disaster Mental Health team, the Green Cross Team, and as a Diplomate for the American Academy of Experts in Traumatic Stress.
Beyond the therapy room, Dr. Johnson is an Assistant Professor in the Touro College Department of Behavioral Science’s Clinical Mental Health Counselling Program and is proud to have provided service to the field as an educator since 2007. She takes an interest in encouraging the growth of future clinician and has provided private supervision to clinicians for more than 15-years.
