🎯 Direct 💪 Challenging 🌎 Holistic 🧘 CalmWhy Elliott Blitenthal chose to be in the helping profession
During my time as a yeshiva student, I had the opportunity to work through some challenges with an excellent therapist. After my first or second session with him, I knew that one day I’d want to be sitting on his side of the room. As an intuitive and empathic person, I finally saw a career in which I could play to my strengths. Helping others is a tremendous privilege and making the decision to do so is one I've never regretted.
Elliott Blitenthal's approach
My approach to therapy is integrative and holistic and tailored to clients’ particular needs. With clients who have a history of trauma, much of our work together consists of parts work and EMDR, both of which involve deeper exploration and healing. Some sessions focus more on mindfulness practice and other behavioral tools, especially when working practically on managing anxiety or addictive behaviors. In addition to regular psychotherapy, I also offer ketamine-assisted-psychotherapy and psychedelic integration. Some clients who have struggled with seeing results from talk therapy or psychotropic medication find that bringing prescribed ketamine into a therapy session allows them to open up doors to further dimensions of healing.
What you can expect from sessions with Elliott Blitenthal
You can expect our sessions to be focused on the particular needs and goals that bring you to therapy. Informed consent is a strong value of mine, which means that I do my best to explain everything we do as we do it and to check in with you as we go through the process. I make an effort to balance creating a comfortable space for you, with being direct in my feedback and helping you move towards healing.
Elliott Blitenthal's experience working with the Jewish community
While I do not work exclusively with the Jewish community, a large portion of my clientele is Orthodox Jewish. Many of my clients are religious to varying degrees and some have never been so or became irreligious later in life. While there aren’t any psychological principles that apply exclusively to Jews, each culture has its nuances and value systems which make it helpful to work with a provider who is culturally competent. Equally, I strongly believe that it is not the role of any therapist to impose his or her worldview on their clients. Therapy is a setting in which to be accepted as you are and not feel judged for shamed for your lifestyle choices.
