Over 41.2% of Jews know someone with substance abuse issues. Many individuals in the Jewish community with substance use challenges feel shame and fear their community will shun them. Often the stigma leads them to avoid asking for help, and in some circumstances, can even cause them to turn away from their faith and embark a solitary path that can push them further into the grasp of substance use.
Shalvah, the Hebrew concept of inner peace, balance, and well-being, is a central goal of Jewish addiction treatment. While addiction can feel all-consuming, recovery is possible with the right support. For Orthodox Jewish adults struggling with substance use, a traditional recovery program that does not accommodate religious observance may not meet their needs. At RAC, we view addiction as a health condition, not a moral failing. Our Jewish rehabilitation facility is designed to support your recovery while honoring your religious practices, cultural values, dietary requirements, and overall health needs, providing a treatment environment where healing and spiritual well-being can grow together.
What Is Kosher Substance Abuse Treatment?
Since many in the Jewish community don't feel comfortable talking about addiction or their need for help with substance abuse, going to a kosher recovery center is one way to surround yourself with the comfort of your faith and the fellowship of your community while getting the treatment you need. RAC provides Jewish clients with a treatment program that integrates Jewish faith into addiction recovery in a safe, supportive environment. Treatment address both addiction and mental health challenges, including co-occurring disorders.
What Happens in the Program?
At RAC, clients benefit from evidence-based treatment in a supportive environment that integrates Orthodox Jewish values, spiritual guidance, and whole-person wellness. Our structured program includes:
- Monday-Friday therapeutic programming
- Individual, group, and family therapy
- Access to Orthodox Jewish clinical and support staff
- Relapse prevention strategies and recovery planning
- Physical, emotional, and spiritual wellness services
- Personalized aftercare planning to support long-term recovery
Group therapy offers a welcoming environment that builds cultural understanding, community support, and community connection through open dialogue and vulnerability.
Our Clinical Director, Nadine Talley, MSW, LCSW, CTSS elaborates: "In today's world of social media, constant connectivity, pressure to succeed, and endless demands on our time, it's easy to overlook the beauty around us and the power of genuine human connection. Challenges with substance use often create barriers that can leave people feeling disconnected, isolated, and unable to fully experience all that life has to offer. At RAC, we are committed to helping individuals rediscover joy, purpose, and possibility while rebuilding relationships and strengthening their connection to themselves and others. We believe that recovery is not only about healing, but also about reclaiming a life filled with hope, meaning, and opportunity."
Kosher Diet Plans
A standard part of the Jewish drug rehabilitation program is a kosher dietary plan designed to meet the cultural and dietary needs of Jewish clients. All meals are Glatt Kosher and help you maintain Kosher dietary laws during treatment.
Clients have access to kosher meals from a fully stocked kashrut kitchen. We believe that a healthy diet plan is critical in helping you consume the vital nutrients you need to boost your health after struggling with addiction. Eating healthy, kosher foods is also a meaningful part of tradition and a great way to integrate religious observances into recovery. The right foods also boost your energy levels and improve your mood, both of which are vital to recovery. At our Jewish recovery center, we take a holistic approach to recovery, supporting clients with both healthy nutrition and building fitness programs that promote physical, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
Religious Services
We have seen firsthand the positive role that faith, religious practice, and community can play in the recovery process. For individuals who value religious observance, these traditions can provide strength, comfort, and encouragement during a challenging time. At RAC, we observe Shabbos, provide Shabbat meals, and adjust programming around the Jewish calendar and holidays to support Orthodox Jewish life and practice.
Whether you are deeply connected to your faith or looking to reconnect with it, we believe that spiritual growth, combined with evidence-based treatment and compassionate support, can be a meaningful part of the healing process. By addressing the physical, emotional, and spiritual dimensions of recovery, we help clients build a strong foundation for lasting sobriety and overall well-being.
Rabbi Avi Richler is our campus spiritual advisor and is available to all our clients throughout the treatment process, offering spiritual guidance with respect for your religious beliefs. We also offer a kosher recovery program in Ocean County at our Lakewood campus.
