Rabbi Shmuel Reich's style
💙 Warm 😃 Humorous 👂 ListenerWhy Rabbi Shmuel Reich chose to be in the helping profession
After several years of classroom teaching, which I continue to enjoy, I began looking for an additional way to engage with people during the afternoons. Teaching has always been a passion of mine, and I wanted a path that allowed me to combine that love with meaningful one-on-one work. Mental health felt like a natural fit. I began with basic life coaching to learn the fundamentals, and soon realized I wanted to explore a specialty that would allow me to make a deeper impact.
When ADHD was suggested to me, I was immediately intrigued. Over the years, I had taught students and known friends who navigated the unique challenges of ADHD, and the idea of learning how to support them professionally felt exciting and purposeful. Within days, I applied to a training program focused on ADHD, eager to deepen my understanding and skills. Since then, this work has become a meaningful part of my life, combining my love of teaching with the joy of helping others navigate challenges and build their strengths.
Rabbi Shmuel Reich's approach
ADHD coaching begins with a conversation designed to help the client understand how their ADHD brain works, while allowing the coach to learn about the client’s strengths, interests, and unique challenges. This initial discussion lays the foundation for developing practical strategies tailored to the individual. As strategies are created, the client identifies both long-term and short-term goals, sometimes with guidance from the coach, ensuring that the plan aligns with their priorities.
The approach is collaborative, rooted in traditional life coaching techniques where questions help the client explore options and identify a course of action. In ADHD coaching, however, the process is often more hands-on. The coach may offer direct suggestions, which are then discussed together to determine whether the approach is realistic and feasible for the client. This balance of guidance and collaboration helps clients build strategies that are both practical and personalized to their needs.
What you can expect from sessions with Rabbi Shmuel Reich
During sessions, we focus on practical scenarios where the client is experiencing challenges, whether at home, at work, or elsewhere. Together, we explore how ADHD may have been affecting previous attempts to manage these situations and develop strategies to approach them differently. Sometimes these strategies work right away, but more often, the following sessions are used to assess what is effective and what may need adjustment. We then refine the approach so it fits the client’s needs more precisely.
Sessions also provide built-in accountability, helping clients stay on track with the strategies and goals they set. The coaching process typically spans two to four months, though it can be shorter or longer depending on individual circumstances and goals. Throughout this time, the focus remains on creating practical, sustainable approaches that help clients navigate daily life more effectively while building confidence in their ability to manage challenges.
Rabbi Shmuel Reich's experience working with the Jewish community
My experience working with the Jewish community is rooted in both education and communal leadership. I began my career teaching Gemara and Halacha in a yeshiva high school, a role I continue to enjoy today. In addition, I serve as an assistant rabbi in a local shul, which allows me to engage with the community in meaningful ways beyond the classroom.
While I work professionally with a wide range of people, most of my clients and interactions are within the Jewish community. This experience has given me insight into the unique challenges, values, and cultural contexts that shape the lives of those I work with, helping me provide support that is both practical and deeply aligned with their perspectives.
