Yisroel Schor, LMHC's style
🎯 Direct 💙 Warm 😃 Humorous 🙏 SpiritualWhy Yisroel Schor, LMHC chose to be in the helping profession
At first, my desire to enter the mental health field came from a genuine wish to help others. Over time, that motivation grew and became more personal. I began doing my own work, exploring my own inner world, and it profoundly transformed the way I see myself and others. Now, my focus is less about directing change and more about being alongside people as they navigate their own journey toward self-discovery and growth.
I have always been drawn to looking at things on a deeper level. As I worked to understand the world around me, I realized that without understanding ourselves, our attempts to understand anything else feel incomplete. Our inner world shapes the way we relate to others, make decisions, and find meaning in our lives. There is nothing more rewarding to me than witnessing someone move from feeling closed off or disconnected to feeling grounded, open, and comfortable in their own skin. Helping people experience that sense of presence and authenticity is what drives my work every day.
Yisroel Schor, LMHC's approach
My approach to therapy begins with creating a relationship that feels genuinely safe, a space where you can share things you may have never voiced to anyone else, and perhaps have never fully admitted to yourself. I believe much of the pain we carry is rooted in relational wounds, so healing also begins in relationship. Once that sense of safety is established, we can gently explore the experiences and patterns you’ve been carrying, approaching them with curiosity instead of judgment.
Together, we work to build a new way of relating to the parts of you that developed to cope, protect, or survive. When these parts are met with understanding rather than being pushed away, they begin to soften, opening the door to meaningful change. The process is gradual, collaborative, and deeply human, and my role is to support you in navigating it with compassion and awareness. Over time, this work can transform how you experience yourself, your relationships, and the world around you.
What you can expect from sessions with Yisroel Schor, LMHC
In our sessions, you can expect me to be fully present and attuned to both you and your experience. We begin by getting to know your story and identifying the areas in your life that feel challenging, overwhelming, or stuck. From there, we explore the deeper patterns that underlie those struggles, uncovering the ways your mind and body have adapted to protect you. This process is done at your pace, with curiosity and care guiding each step.
I believe healing grows from a place of safety and internal “okayness,” not from pressure or urgency. Together, we work to create steadiness in your life, both inside and out. This may involve strengthening supportive relationships, clarifying boundaries, building daily structure, or developing practices that help you feel grounded. As safety and stability grow, so does your capacity for curiosity and openness.
Healing unfolds in stages. The first stage is not about eliminating pain, but recognizing that you are larger than your struggles. As you begin to see yourself this way, the grip of fear and anxiety starts to loosen. Much of our suffering arises not only from what we feel, but from how we relate to it — through shame, guilt, or difficulty accepting ourselves as we are. When we stop bracing against sadness, anger, or self-doubt and instead allow what is, their intensity often begins to shift.
With that foundation, deeper healing can emerge, leading to greater self-acceptance, calmness, and openness. Over time, this work nurtures not only your relationship with yourself, but also your capacity to connect with others with compassion and ease. It’s a journey of learning to inhabit your life more fully and with more love, both for yourself and those around you.
Yisroel Schor, LMHC's experience working with the Jewish community
Having grown up in the frum community and later navigating different segments of Jewish life, I have been exposed to a wide range of perspectives within the Jewish community. These personal experiences have given me a nuanced understanding of the many ways people approach their religious and personal journeys. I understand that each path is unique, and that our beliefs and backgrounds shape not only our choices but also the ways we experience challenges and growth.
Professionally, I have worked in Jewish clinics serving a broad spectrum of clients, as well as in a Jewish rehabilitation setting. Today, my clients come from across the full range of Jewish practice and identity, and many find that they don’t need to over-explain their background or values to be understood. I approach each person with respect for their beliefs, culture, and individual journey, creating a space where they can explore themselves authentically and safely. My work is grounded in the belief that understanding and honoring someone’s cultural and spiritual context is essential to meaningful, lasting growth.
