Why Mordy Gottlieb, LCSW, CSAT chose to be in the helping profession

I do this work because I have a rare capacity to hold what many people can’t — the shame, the fear, the compulsions, the stories men thought they’d take to the grave. I offer a space where it becomes possible to finally get real. A place where you can set down the masks, the labels, the pressure to perform or be someone you’re not. Here, you can start to reconnect with the parts of yourself you’ve buried, and begin to remember what it’s like to feel at peace — to feel joy again, maybe for the first time in years.

I know this path because I’ve walked it myself. Many of the men who come to me never pictured themselves in therapy. They arrive skeptical, resistant, sometimes even angry. That’s not a barrier, though. It’s often the starting point. When you show up — even if it’s just by a thread — something begins to shift. You don’t need to have the answers, and you don’t need to come in polished or prepared. All that’s required is that you come as you are, and I’ll meet you there, fully, every step of the way.

Mordy Gottlieb, LCSW, CSAT's approach

My approach is experiential, relational, and direct. I’m not here just to listen — I’m here to be with you in the work. Healing begins when we stop avoiding and start telling the truth. It happens when we move beyond managing symptoms and start facing what’s really underneath. That’s where freedom begins. Not by bypassing the pain, but by walking straight through it with honesty, presence, and support.

This work is about men. The pressure they carry. The silence they’ve learned to live in. The relationships they’ve lost along the way — with others, and almost always with themselves. I help men reconnect. To become more relational, more honest, and more fully alive. Not by changing who they are, but by reclaiming the parts they’ve buried under shame, anger, and fear. This is about coming back to yourself and remembering who you really are beneath the weight you’ve been carrying.

The methods I use are powerful, embodied, and proven to create lasting change. I work with experiential approaches like Accelerated Resolution Therapy (ART) and psychodrama that move far beyond talk. These tools don’t just help you understand what’s happening — they allow your body to feel it, process it, and finally release it. You don’t have to spend years in therapy to find real relief. When you’re ready, this work can move fast and open the door to real transformation.

In our work together, I model what it means to be real. To feel fully. To set boundaries without apology. To say no without guilt and ask for what you need without shame. I bring honesty, challenge, and deep presence, and I invite you to do the same. We laugh. We cry. We get real. I’ll meet you exactly where you are and walk with you as far as you’re willing to go.

I am rooted in truth and in a commitment to reality — even when it’s messy, even when it’s hard. I won’t coddle you, and I won’t let you hide. But I’ll never ask you to go anywhere I haven’t gone myself. This is about learning how to connect — not only with me, but with yourself and the people who matter most. Over time, you’ll begin to feel safe again. Not because life got easier, but because you finally showed up as you.

What you can expect from sessions with Mordy Gottlieb, LCSW, CSAT

You can expect honesty. Depth. Momentum. This is not a space where we stay on the surface or talk in circles. I’m not here to analyze you from a distance. I’m here to help you move — emotionally, relationally, spiritually. And sometimes, that movement begins with something as simple, and as powerful, as just showing up.

Some sessions might feel intense. Others might feel like a deep exhale. We’ll follow what’s real. You might cry. You might get angry. You might laugh harder than you have in years. I’ll call you out when you’re hiding and stay with you when things get hard. You won’t be pushed before you’re ready, but you also won’t be allowed to stay stuck. Growth happens in that tension, and I’ll be there with you for all of it.

Over time, you’ll learn how to connect — first with yourself, and then with the people in your life in a way that feels grounded and true. You’ll start to understand what you’re feeling, what you need, and how to express it in ways that build intimacy and safety. The goal isn’t perfection. It’s presence. Integrity. Wholeness. Real connection that lasts.

And if you come in unsure, guarded, or resistant, that’s not a problem. Most of the men I work with begin in that very place. You don’t have to be convinced or have everything figured out. All that’s required is the willingness to step into something real. From there, we go forward together.

Mordy Gottlieb, LCSW, CSAT's experience working with the Jewish community

As someone who is part of the Jewish community, I understand the unique pressures, expectations, and unspoken rules that can shape a man’s inner world. I’ve worked extensively with Orthodox men — many of whom came to therapy with hesitation, unsure if they’d be judged, misunderstood, or shamed for what they were carrying. During my time at The Prescott House, a residential treatment center where I specialized in working with men, I had the privilege of walking alongside clients from Orthodox backgrounds as they spoke — often for the very first time — about struggles they had never dared to put into words. Bearing witness to those moments of truth and release is some of the most meaningful work I’ve ever done.

Whether you’re observant, no longer observant, or somewhere in between, you don’t have to explain your context or translate your experience here. I get it. I speak the language — not only culturally and religiously, but emotionally. I’ll meet you exactly where you are, without judgment or agenda, and we’ll move forward from there. Together, we work with honesty, compassion, and deep respect for your path — both the one you’ve already walked and the one you’re ready to step into.
