Why Kaila Dickstein chose to be in the helping profession

There isn't a single definitive reason that led me to become a psychologist; rather, it felt like the most organic and fitting career path for my life's journey. My upbringing played a pivotal role in shaping this trajectory. I was fortunate to grow up in a household where both my parents were dedicated to serving others. My mother, a passionate speech pathologist, specialized in assisting children with severe disabilities, while my father, initially a public defender, tirelessly advocated for those who often couldn't advocate for themselves.

During my formative years, I found myself naturally drawn to helping other children navigate the intricate web of social dynamics. I possessed an innate, powerful sense of empathy that served as my compass, not only in defining my own identity but also in shaping my aspirations and the kind of individuals with whom I wanted to share my life's journey. It was evident that psychology, the study of human behavior, was the perfect fit for me during my college years. Early on, I recognized that pursuing a doctoral degree was the only path that would empower me to have the profound impact on the world that I desired.

Kaila Dickstein's approach

I firmly believe that within every individual lies the potential to become the most successful and fulfilled version of themselves. Unfortunately, the complexities of the world often obscure this innate wisdom. As a psychologist, I perceive my role as that of a guiding light, assisting others in uncovering the profound answers that reside within them. My primary mission is to facilitate a heightened level of self-awareness and perspective, ultimately enabling individuals to optimize their personal understanding and happiness.

In my therapeutic practice, I adopt an eclectic approach, recognizing that each person's journey is unique and multifaceted. I tailor my sessions to cater to the specific needs and circumstances presented by each client. My goal is to possess a wide array of tools and techniques at my disposal, drawing from various therapeutic approaches to best serve the individual. By doing so, I aim to provide comprehensive support that empowers each person on their path toward self-discovery and well-being.

Kaila Dickstein's experience working with the Jewish community

Throughout my life, my connection to Judaism has served as a steadfast foundation, influencing my interactions with people from all walks of life. From my teenage years, when I took on the role of teaching Hebrew school, to my involvement in leading a thriving college Hillel community, and my active participation in my local Jewish preschool and synagogue, my Jewish identity has seamlessly intertwined with my everyday existence. It's important to emphasize that my Jewish values and principles are not compartmentalized; they are an integral part of my overall life.

Over the years, I've discovered that Judaism offers profound guidance and solace, which I readily incorporate into my therapeutic practice. These teachings provide an additional layer of support and wisdom that I bring into the therapy session, enhancing the holistic approach to helping individuals achieve personal growth and well-being.
