🎯 Direct 💙 Warm 🥇 Empowering 💭 Open mindedWhy Judith Yehudis Wolofsky, LCSW-R chose to be in the helping profession
Helping people brings me a tremendous sense of satisfaction, one that far surpasses any monetary compensation. There is something deeply meaningful about being able to support another person through challenges, growth, and healing. Seeing someone gain clarity, strengthen their relationships, or move toward a more fulfilling life is incredibly rewarding to me and continues to inspire the work that I do every day.
As a deeply religious Jew, I believe that it is my mission in this world to do as much good as possible. This belief is not separate from my professional work. It is at the very heart of it. I view the opportunity to help others as both a privilege and a responsibility, one that brings reward not only in this world, but in the World to Come. My faith gives me a deep sense of purpose and guides the compassion, dedication, and care that I strive to bring to every person I work with.
Judith Yehudis Wolofsky, LCSW-R's approach
The first two or three sessions are devoted to a thorough intake process. During this time, I work to gain a deep understanding of the presenting concerns while taking an in depth psychosocial and medical history. I believe that effective therapy begins with a comprehensive assessment, allowing me to understand not only the current struggles, but also the experiences and relationships that have shaped a person's life. I also complete a genogram to explore family dynamics, interpersonal relationships, and the strengths and challenges within the family system.
When working with minors, the first session is conducted with the parents, as it is important for me to understand the family's perspective and gather relevant history before meeting with the child. I typically begin seeing the child during the second session. Once I have completed a full assessment, I generally begin treatment using a sensorimotor approach, as I believe that the body holds our history and tells our story. As therapy progresses, I thoughtfully integrate other modalities, including EMDR, attachment therapy, and sand tray therapy, when my clinical judgment indicates that these approaches would be beneficial to the healing process.
What you can expect from sessions with Judith Yehudis Wolofsky, LCSW-R
The early sessions are focused on building a strong therapeutic relationship and resourcing the client. I believe that healing can only take place when a client feels genuinely safe and knows that they can trust me with the most private and painful parts of their lives. Because of this, establishing trust is one of the most important aspects of the therapeutic process. Clients need to know that I am there for them, that they will be treated with compassion and respect, and that I would never betray or harm them in any way.
Once a client has developed sufficient internal resources and feels secure within the therapeutic relationship, we can begin to delicately address painful and sensitive experiences. I move at a pace that feels manageable for the client, providing support, validation, and additional resourcing whenever needed. It is imperative to explore difficult issues gradually so that the client remains grounded and empowered throughout the process. As shame begins to diminish, clients are often able to view themselves and their experiences in a new light, fostering greater self-compassion and healing.
When clients have experienced relational trauma or have been harmed by others, I frequently incorporate attachment-based therapy. Through this work, clients are gently guided to reconnect with the parts of themselves that were wounded and to recognize that they are now safe in the present. They are able to see how much they have grown and the strengths they have developed along the way. This process helps shift the narrative from one of victimhood to one of resilience and empowerment, opening the door to lasting healing and transformation.
Judith Yehudis Wolofsky, LCSW-R's experience working with the Jewish community
My clinical journey began through volunteer work with Bilur Cholim Family Crisis, where I served for several years before receiving my degree and continued to volunteer after becoming fully licensed. In this role, I went into clients' homes to provide both case management and counseling services under the supervision of their highly professional team. This experience gave me invaluable hands on training and deepened my understanding of the challenges individuals and families face during times of crisis.
I later worked at Sephardic Bikur Holim for three years, serving both the Syrian and Ashkenaz communities. The clinic placed a strong emphasis on professional growth and continuing education, and my clinical skills developed tremendously during that time. The knowledge, experience, and confidence I gained ultimately enabled me to open a successful private practice in Borough Park, where I practiced for six years.
After relocating to Toms River, I continued my private practice and remain committed to serving a diverse population. Today, I work with both members of the Orthodox Jewish community and individuals from the secular community. I feel privileged to support people from a wide range of backgrounds and strive to provide a safe, compassionate, and culturally sensitive environment for everyone I work with.
