💙 Warm 💡 Solution-oriented 🥇 Empowering 🎨 CreativeWhy Ilana Buchbinder, RDN, MB chose to be in the helping profession
Hi there! I am a Registered Dietitian with a genuine passion for helping clients integrate nutrition into their lives in a way that feels practical, realistic, and even enjoyable. I believe that food should support your life, not complicate it, and that sustainable change comes from small, consistent choices that actually fit into your day-to-day routine. My approach is rooted in meeting you where you are, understanding your lifestyle, and working together to build habits that feel both supportive and doable. Whether you're looking to improve your overall well-being or navigate specific challenges, my goal is to help you feel more confident and at ease with your nutrition.
Growing up, nutrition was not just a topic in my house; it was truly a lifestyle. Each morning before school, I’d find half a perfectly sliced grapefruit, a bowl of cereal, and a glass of milk waiting for me at the kitchen table. My childhood friends still talk about that grapefruit, a small but memorable reflection of the care and intention that shaped my early years. Those consistent moments were an expression of my mother’s mindful approach to nutritious food, and they quietly taught me how deeply nutrition can impact our well-being. That early understanding stayed with me and ultimately inspired my path to becoming a dietitian, where I now help others create their own meaningful, sustainable relationships with food.
Ilana Buchbinder, RDN, MB's approach
My approach is collaborative, and I work alongside my clients to help them move through obstacles, create meaningful change, and crush their goals. I see therapy and nutrition work as a partnership, where we figure things out together rather than me simply telling you what to do. Clients often come in feeling stuck or overwhelmed, and my role is to help bring clarity, structure, and momentum. We focus on practical steps that feel realistic in your actual life, not just on paper. Throughout the process, I strive to ensure clients feel supported, understood, and confident that I am in their corner every step of the way.
I especially enjoy working with adolescents and their parents who are navigating picky eating and trying to build healthy habits that last a lifetime. These dynamics can feel stressful at home, and my goal is to make things feel more manageable and less charged for everyone involved. Parents already have enough on their plate, so let me help you figure out what goes on your child’s plate. Together, we focus on reducing pressure around food while gradually expanding comfort and flexibility. Over time, the aim is to create a more peaceful and sustainable relationship with eating for both the child and the family.
Nutrition should fit seamlessly into your life, not feel like another source of stress or rules to manage. I work to make the process feel supportive, realistic, and tailored to your day-to-day routines. My clients know they are not doing this alone, and I stay present and engaged throughout the journey. I am right there cheering you on every step of the way, helping you stay focused on progress rather than perfection.
What you can expect from sessions with Ilana Buchbinder, RDN, MB
Think of our sessions as part strategy, part pep talk, and entirely judgment-free. I work with you to explore your relationship with food in a way that feels open, supportive, and grounded in real life. Together, we also look at the emotional aspects of eating, because food is never just about food. At the same time, we keep things simple and doable, because who has time for anything else? The focus is always on making this feel approachable, not overwhelming.
There are no one-size-fits-all plans, no pressure, and no unnecessary overwhelm in the way I work. Instead, we focus on real, practical tools that fit your world, your goals, and the version of nutrition that actually makes sense for you. Everything is tailored to what feels realistic and sustainable, not rigid or restrictive. You will leave each session with clarity, direction, and something you can actually use right away. My goal is for you to feel supported, motivated, and genuinely excited about your next steps.
Ilana Buchbinder, RDN, MB's experience working with the Jewish community
I am committed to working with clients from all backgrounds, and I feel privileged to have supported individuals from a wide range of diverse communities. As a born-and-bred member of the Jewish community, I have a deep understanding of the traditions, the rhythms of the holidays, and what it really means to navigate our weekly Thanksgiving-style meals. I bring both cultural awareness and practical nutrition guidance into my work, helping clients feel seen and supported rather than restricted or judged. My goal is always to make nutrition feel accessible within real life, not separate from it.
I also have a collection of traditional recipes made with healthy twists, which I regularly share with clients as part of our work together. These are not about changing culture or giving things up, but about finding ways to support your health while staying connected to what matters most to you. Because at the end of the day, you should be able to reach your goals without compromising your values. I believe nutrition works best when it respects identity, tradition, and enjoyment of food. My approach is about helping you feel at home in both your body and your table.

- Food Rules (Michael Pollan)
An outline of 64 straightforward principles to help us decide what we should be eating. - Eating Mindfully
Mindful eating is a practice of bringing full, non-judgmental awareness to the experience of eating, using all senses to savor food, and tuning into body signals of hunger and fullness. It involves choosing and enjoying food that sustains health while becoming aware of thoughts, emotions, and physical sensations related to eating. - MyPlate Book Jr.
Getting kids interested in healthy foods is easy with MyPlate Book Jr. Kids are attracted to the colorful and fun illustrations.
