But Are You Hydrated?

The number one question I ask my health coaching clients is, “Are you hydrated?” The reason I focus on hydration first is because it impacts so many different areas of health and helps the body run smoothly. If you find that you’ve been feeling sluggish, foggy, or “off” lately, take a look at your daily water intake because you may not be drinking enough water or the water you are drinking, may not be hydrating you like you think it is.

WHY HYDRATION MATTERS

Hydration isn’t just about quenching your thirst though. It’s actually necessary for bodily functions to work optimally. Water makes up about 60% of your body, and every cell relies on it to function. Without enough, you may notice fatigue, headaches, bloating, or trouble concentrating. Hydrating on a deep cellular level is the tool your body needs to boost energy, support digestion, improve mental clarity, it even gives your skin that hydrated, dewy look, can helps curb cravings (sometimes you’re actually just thirsty but your body thinks it’s hunger), and so much more. In short, deep hydration gives your cells exactly what they need. And I know, I know, it’s not always easy to drink enough water throughout the day. But staying hydrated consistently doesn’t have to be complicated. I’m sharing a few simple habits and a DIY electrolyte drink you can make at home. You’ll feel more energetic and vibrant fast.

5 EASY WAYS TO STAY HYDRATED DAILY

  1. Start Your Day with Water: Drink a 16 ounce glass of water first thing in the morning to jumpstart hydration since you just spent the past 7-9 hours without water and your body needs to rehydrate.

  2. Flavor Your Water with Nature’s Electrolytes: Add a fresh squeeze of lemon, as well as other fun additions such as raw honey, cucumber, mint, berries, for a refreshing twist. (I usually stick to lemon and raw honey to keep it easy and simple.) Recipe below.

  3. Eat Water-Rich Foods: Watermelon, oranges, celery, cucumbers, and apples count toward your daily “water” intake.

  4. Set Hydration Reminders: Something that I love to suggest to my clients (and it works really well) is to drink a glass of lemon water before breakfast, again before lunch, and then one more time before dinner. This is because habit stacking, (which is when you add a new habit right next to a habit you already do, and in this case the habit you already do is eating your meals) is such an easy way to start bringing in new healthy habits. By drinking right before every meal, this will help you stay hydrated consistently throughout the day instead of drinking all of your water at once, which usually just goes right through you.

  5. Keep a Reusable Bottle Nearby: Hydration is easier when water is always within reach. I love using a glass water bottle when I add in lemon and raw honey because it’s easier to clean than a plastic or aluminum bottle. Here’s the glass water bottle I love using.

DIY ELECTROLYTE DRINK RECIPE

Electrolytes help your body retain fluids and stay balanced, which is perfect after exercise, hot days, or a busy schedule. Here is a recipe you can make and add to your water bottle. You can also store it in your fridge so you have it prepped and ready for you to drink throughout the day.

Ingredients:

  • 16 oz filtered water

  • ½ lemon or lime freshly squeezed (not from a store bought bottle, must be fresh for full benefits)

  • 1–2 tsp raw honey or maple syrup

  • 1/8 tsp sea salt

Instructions:

  1. Mix all ingredients in a glass or bottle until well combined.

  2. Chill in the fridge or enjoy right away.

  3. Sip throughout the day or after exercise to replenish fluids and minerals.

FINAL THOUGHTS

Hydration is one of the simplest yet most impactful ways to feel your best. Small daily habits, like drinking water first thing in the morning, eating water-rich foods, and trying your own DIY electrolyte drink, can improve energy, focus, digestion, and skin health, helping you feel vibrant every day.
