Healthy Thoughts, Healthy Feelings
Event Description:
How to model and teach The ABCs of Big Emotions
Big emotions are not the problem. They are the signal.
When your child is overwhelmed by disappointment or frustration, it is natural to focus on stopping the reaction. Yet the emotion itself is not what needs fixing. It is often the thought beneath it, such as "This is unbearable" or "This should not be happening," that turns a hard moment into a meltdown.
Albert Ellis, PhD, transformed the way we understand emotions when he developed Rational Emotive Behavior Therapy, one of the earliest cognitive behavioral therapies and an important foundation for CBT. Learn directly from his wife and longtime collaborator, Debbie Joffe Ellis, PhD, as she introduces the ABC model and shows how changing the thinking behind an emotion can change what comes next.
This event is intended for parents, educators, and caregivers of children in grades K–12.
