One tasks of therapy is to develop deeper self compassion and acceptance. In order for this to happen you need to feel that your therapist has authentic compassion for, and acceptance of you. However, when people have not had the experience of being fully seen and heard unconditionally, they are not aware that therapy can and should feel this way. If you feel that your therapist is being defensive, retaliating, or judging you, you can bring it up with them and see where the conversation leads. Oftentimes, a vulnerable conversation like this can lead to deeper awareness, strengthen the therapeutic relationship and have an extraordinary impact on one's healing journey.
Perhaps the butterfly is proof that you can go through a great deal of darkness yet become something beautiful." (Author Unknown)
