Why Zev Alexander chose to be in the helping profession

Dr. Zev Alexander is an Adult Psychiatrist in New York City who specializes in Telepsychiatry, Psychotherapy, and medication management. He sees individuals and couples across the lifespan for-a variety of issues, including anxiety and mood disorders and career and relationship challenges.

After completing his training at the New York Psychoanalytical Institute, Dr. Alexander has an expertise in combining talk therapy with medication management. He is interested in meeting patients where they are at helping with their specific symptoms and struggles by developing an individualized treatment plan that is determined by a client’s needs and goals. He believes the purpose of treatment is to help people understand how their minds work and the way in which thoughts, feelings, and actions are connected to the choices they make in their current daily life. Through the sessions, patterns emerge in one’s awareness that enable one to gain more control over their choices in their relationships, their work, and the way in which they make life meaningful. He also works with couples via online video conferencing.

Dr. Alexander completed his adult psychiatry residency at New York University Langone Medical Center and received both his MD and BA from Brown University. He was awarded a Fulbright Scholarship to Israel and wrote a master’s thesis on Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) and resilience.

Dr. Alexander combines medication management with psychodynamic psychotherapy to create the right balance for each patient. He works intensively and sees people with the frequency necessary for them to develop insight and have symptom improvement.

Zev Alexander's experience working with the Jewish community

I was the Attending Psychiatrist on an inpatient unit that NY Presbyterian Hospital opened and designed for the Orthodox Jewish community. I worked there from 2009-2010 in its first year when it opened in White Plains at Payne Whitney Cornell in Westchester. I have maintained a private practice since then working with many different communities within the Jewish observant and not observant populations. I treat patients in English or Hebrew over zoom within the US, or in person in Israel.
