Adina Izkovitz's style
🎯 Direct 💙 Warm 👂 Listener 💡 Solution-orientedWhy Adina Izkovitz chose to be in the helping profession
In my previous profession as a teacher and teacher mentor, I met countless children and adults who were struggling in different ways. As I tried to help them, I also witnessed tremendous strength, resilience, and capacity for growth. Over time, I came to see how deeply challenges within the home, and particularly within marriages and relationships, could affect both children and adults. I became increasingly interested in understanding not only what people were struggling with, but also what was happening within the relationships and family systems around them.
I realized that I wanted to better understand and address these challenges at their source. I wanted to have the professional training and tools needed to help marriages and relationships not simply survive, but truly thrive. That realization led me to become a couples counselor and to focus my work on helping couples better understand themselves, one another, and the patterns within their relationships.
I also pursued specialized training in premarital counseling because I believe deeply in prevention. I want to give couples the tools to build a strong foundation from the start, before challenges reach a crisis point. My hope is that couples can draw on their own strengths, their connection to one another, and the tools they develop in counseling when difficulties arise. I believe that with greater awareness, preparation, and the right support, couples can approach challenges as opportunities for growth and build relationships that are strong, connected, and fulfilling.
Adina Izkovitz's approach
I believe there is no one size fits all approach to marriage. Each person and each couple is unique, with their own experiences, needs, dynamics, strengths, and goals, so I create an individualized treatment plan tailored to the couple I am working with. My approach focuses on the needs and experiences of both individuals within the relationship, creating space for each partner to feel understood while also developing a deeper understanding of one another.
Together, we explore what lies beneath feelings, reactions, and behaviors and begin to understand the underlying roots of relationship patterns and challenges. My approach is client-centered, collaborative, and client-led, and I also draw on relational and strengths-based approaches. I help couples recognize the capacities and resilience that are already present within their relationship and build greater connection between them. At the same time, my work is practical and skills-based. I want couples to leave sessions with concrete tools they can take home and use in their everyday lives.
I strive to create a balanced space where both partners feel truly heard, respected, and understood. My ultimate goal is to help couples identify conflict early, communicate effectively, work through challenges together, and use difficult moments as opportunities for growth. The goal is not simply to have a stable marriage, but to build one that feels happy, connected, meaningful, and fulfilling.
Premarital counseling is a short, focused series of sessions designed to give couples a practical toolbox as they begin their marriage. It provides a foundation for greater awareness, healthier communication, and important conversations, while giving couples practical tools they can continue using throughout their relationship. I believe that preparing for marriage is an opportunity to build a strong foundation from the start, rather than waiting until difficulties arise.
Together, we can explore the strengths you already bring to your relationship, as well as the areas where greater awareness or preparation may be helpful. The goal is to help you begin married life from a healthier and more intentional place, with greater clarity and confidence. By developing tools before challenges reach a crisis point, couples are better equipped to navigate differences, communicate effectively, and draw on their connection to one another when difficulties arise.

I also believe that meaningful change comes from understanding what is happening beneath the surface. Together, we can explore the feelings, reactions, behaviors, and relationship patterns that may be contributing to challenges, while also identifying the strengths and resilience that can help you move forward. My goal is to create a space where both partners can feel respected and supported while developing greater understanding, connection, and confidence in their ability to work through challenges together.
For couples preparing for marriage, you can expect a short, focused, and engaging series of sessions designed to help you prepare for a strong and fulfilling marriage. It is an opportunity to slow down, build awareness, and develop practical tools before beginning married life together.
Together, we will explore how to understand and meet one another’s needs, communicate effectively, navigate differences, and avoid common relationship pitfalls. We will also focus on the strengths and capacities already present within your relationship and consider how those strengths can support you throughout your marriage. The goal is for you to begin your life together feeling more connected, prepared, and confident, with practical tools that you can continue using as you navigate the many stages of married life.
Adina Izkovitz's experience working with the Jewish community
Serving the Jewish community holds a special place in my heart. I have extensive experience working with Jewish couples from diverse backgrounds and across all walks of Jewish life, from highly observant to secular. Through this experience, I have developed an understanding of the cultural values, nuances, and unique considerations that may shape relationships and marriage within the Jewish community.
At the same time, my practice is welcoming and inclusive. I am committed to providing respectful, nonjudgmental, culturally sensitive, and individualized care to couples of all backgrounds, identities, beliefs, and levels of religious observance. I recognize that no two individuals or couples experience their culture, faith, family, or community in exactly the same way. Because of this, I approach each couple with cultural humility rather than assumptions, taking the time to understand the values, traditions, and experiences that are meaningful to you.
My goal is for each couple to receive sensitive, respectful, and culturally attuned counseling that is fully tailored to their unique lifestyle, relationship, strengths, and needs. I want you to feel that there is space to bring your whole experience into the room and that your individual values and perspectives will be respected.
