Understanding Craniosacral Therapy:
Craniosacral Therapy (CST) is a gentle, non-invasive bodywork approach focused on releasing tension and restoring balance in the craniosacral system – the membranes and fluid surrounding the brain and spinal cord. Developed by osteopathic physician Dr. John Upledger, CST works with the body’s natural rhythms to relieve pain, reduce stress, and enhance overall well-being.
Application and Scope of Craniosacral Therapy:
CST is often used to address a range of concerns including headaches, chronic pain, stress, trauma, fatigue, and nervous system dysregulation. It’s also used as a complementary therapy for emotional healing and trauma recovery. Practitioners use light touch to detect and release restrictions in the craniosacral system, supporting the body’s self-correcting mechanisms.
What to Expect in Craniosacral Therapy Sessions:
During a session, you’ll lie fully clothed on a massage table while the practitioner gently places their hands on specific areas of your head, neck, back, or sacrum. The touch is light and still, allowing the practitioner to sense subtle movements and shifts. Many people experience deep relaxation, emotional release, or a calming of the nervous system during or after sessions.
